O Bilʿarab, the valiant, just king,
O noble Arab king, defender of justice
you are the gallant youth; through you the wayward is set straight.
You are the virtuous one, through whom justice prevails

No one hoping for your bounty in generous giving has been disappointed,
None who hopes for your bounty is disappointed
among these mortals; but the reprover is disappointed.
Except the hopeless one with no vision

You are the brimming, sweet [sea], whose
You are the generous foe, sweet-tongued
bounty puts the flowing [torrent] to shame.
Your munificence puts beseechers to shame

So it is as though you pledged yourself or swore
As if you had sworn an oath to yourself
an oath that no petitioner would be disappointed.
That no supplicant shall leave empty-handed

And when the noble boast of generous deeds,
When the generous boast of their generosity
and vie in merit one day, you are the foremost.
And compete in magnanimity, you are the most generous

And when armored warriors hang back in a narrow strait,
When the brave falter in predicaments
or hold back one day, you are the one who presses onward.
Or hesitate one day, you are the boldest

O seeker of bounty from him, do not disclose your request;
O you who seek his bounty, do not ask
for the desired boon is obtained from him without asking.
To receive from him, ask not, for asking is fruitless

Should I fear time's misfortunes and its reversals,
Shall I fear the vicissitudes of time?
when my cord is joined to a cord of affection from you?
When tied to you by a cord of love, I'm connected

How often your bounty has encircled the necks of humankind,
How your favors have adorned the necks of mankind
and means of aid have made their way to them from you.
And conduits of blessings flow to them from you

So it is as though you swore that you would never turn away—
As if you have decreed that you shall never turn away
petitioners; no petitioner of yours has been disappointed.
A supplicant, thus no beseecher leaves you deprived

And if a man's dwelling becomes desolate, and he has not
And if a man grows poor, not asking for your aid
asked for your bounty, you yourself inquire after him.
You take it upon yourself to provide for him

No hopeful man sought [your sea], hoping for bounty,
No hopeful wishing for bounty makes a plea
without returning with what the hopeful man hopes for.
Except you fulfill what the hopeful wishes for

No watcher ever scanned the lightning of your palm's cloud,
No blamer has tasted the lightning of your palm
but a streaming, torrential rain drowned him.
Except he was drowned in a pouring rain

And its chieftains and kings have bowed to you,
Their hearts and kings willingly submit to you
willingly, each standing humbled.
Each standing reverently, hat-in-hand

They come to a brimming sea of your bounty,
Seeking from your endless bounty a generous flood
sweet and fresh, which no petitioner has encompassed.
A sweet Euphrates that no asker can exhaust

Never overlook a worthy young man in Nizwa:
Do not neglect a virtuous youth in Nizwa
this one sits hoping, and that one stands before you.
Who though seated hopes, while this one stands

Live forever in kingdoms, enjoying eternal bliss
throughout your life, for among humankind you have no equal.
For none can match you among all people

Through you the world has grown beautiful; you are its joy,
Through you, life is graced, you are its joy

And its bounty, you set the wavering straight

Were it not for you, no man's life would be pleasant,
Without you no one's life would be pleasant
truly, nor would any sensible man enjoy his food.
Truly, no mind would savor a meal

What is time, what is the world, and what are its pleasures?
What is time, what is the world, what are its pleasures?
For you are time itself, and the light of your face encompasses all.
For time is you, your light envelops all
