1. لا تلومني فمثلى لا يلامْ

    إن مثلى في هواه لا يلامْ

    Do not blame me, for someone like me is not to be blamed.

    Someone like me is not to be blamed for his passion.

  2. إن قلبي في اشتغالٍ واهتمامٍ

    عفوَك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    My heart is preoccupied and troubled.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  3. ما اجتوائي وانقلابي عن مقامِ

    لي ذنوبٌ كالشماريخِ العظام

    What is this aversion of mine, this turning from a station?

    My sins are like mighty mountain peaks.

  4. واجترامى لا يُضاهَى باجترامِ

    عفوك الله يا ربَّ الأنام

    My wrongdoing is matched by no wrongdoing.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  5. إن قلبي من ذنوبي في اضطرام

    وعيوني من همومي لا تنام

    My heart burns because of my sins.

    My eyes cannot sleep because of my cares.

  6. وفؤادي في اكتئابٍ وهيام

    واشتغالِ واهتمامِ وسقام

    My heart is steeped in grief and distraction,

    in preoccupation, worry, and sickness.

  7. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنامْ

    قد جمعنا من حلالٍ وحرام

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    We have amassed from lawful and unlawful sources,

  8. في اكتسابِ المالِ من كل مَرَام

    وانهمكْنا في خبالِ واجترامِ

    acquiring wealth through every pursuit.

    We have plunged into corruption and wrongdoing,

  9. فكأنا مثل أصحاب الغَرام

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    as though we were people consumed by passion.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  10. لا يضيقُ المرءُ من كسب يديهِ

    لاَ ولا يغنيه دهراً ما لديهِ

    A man does not weary of what his hands earn,

    nor does what he possesses ever suffice him,

  11. لو حَوَى الدنيا جميعاً في يديهِ

    وبكَى إن فاتَه شىءٌ عليهِ

    even if he held the whole world in his hands,

    and he would weep over anything that escaped him.

  12. عفوكَ اللهم يا ربَّ الأنام

    إن دنيا ما لها قط دَوام

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    This world never has any permanence.

  13. فهي لا شىءَ كحلمٍ في منام

    أو كلحظٍ أو كمرّ للجهام

    It is nothing, like a dream in sleep,

    or a glance, or the passing of a rainless cloud.

  14. من يُعَمَّرْ فيها بَزدْ منها أُوَام

    عفوكَ اللهمَّ يا ربَّ الأنام

    Whoever lives long in it grows thirstier from it.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  15. فدعِ الدنيا وغادر جمعَها

    فهي كالرقْشاء فاحذر لَسْعَهَا

    So leave the world and abandon amassing it.

    It is like a speckled snake: beware its sting.

  16. ضرُّها فهنا تعدى نفعَهَا

    فاحتفظ إن كنت تَهْوَى رفعَهَا

    Its harm here has surpassed its benefit.

    So guard yourself if you desire worldly elevation.

  17. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    وقل اللهم اغفر زلَّتي

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    Say, O God, forgive my lapse.

  18. واصفحْ اللهم واسدْد خَلَّتِي

    واكفنى شرّ اللّتيا والَّتِي

    Pardon me, O God, and meet my need.

    Spare me the evil of calamities small and great.

  19. وامحُ عني الذنب وارحم زَلَّتِي

    عفوك الله يا رب الأنام

    Erase my sin and have mercy on my lapse.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  20. وأجرني من لظَى نارِ الجحيمْ

    فشرابُ القومِ فيها من حميمْ

    Shelter me from the blaze of Hell's fire.

    For the people's drink there is boiling water,

  21. وعذابٌ لهم فيها مُقيمْ

    أنتَ يا رب لمن تابَ رحيمْ

    and their torment there is abiding.

    You, O Lord, are merciful to whoever repents.

  22. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    واعفُ عن عبدِك في يوم الحسابْ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    Pardon Your servant on the Day of Reckoning.

  23. وقِنا اللهم من سوءِ العَذَابْ

    فهو يرجوكَ فلقِّنْه المتاب

    Protect us, O God, from grievous torment.

    For he hopes in You: teach him repentance

  24. قبل أن يسكن في دار الخرابْ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    before he dwells in the abode of ruin.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  25. إن ذنبي مثلُ تعدادِ الرمالْ

    ليس يحصى أو كأمثالِ الجبالْ

    My sin is like the number of the grains of sand,

    uncountable—or like so many mountains.

  26. ليسَ إلا اللهُ أرجُرو ذَا الجلال

    يغفر الذنب العظيم المُتَوَالْ

    I hope in none but God, Possessor of Majesty,

    who forgives great, recurring sin.

  27. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    إن تعذبني فإني المجرمُ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    If You punish me, I am indeed the sinner.

  28. أو ترى عفوي فأنتَ الأرْحَمُ

    يا إله الخلقِ أنت الأكرمُ

    Or, if You choose to pardon me, You are the most merciful.

    O God of creation, You are the most generous.

  29. وأنا العبدُ المتمرُّ المُسْلمُ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    And I am the Muslim servant, [epithet unclear].

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  30. لا تُؤَاخذني بذنبي إننّي

    تائبٌ من كل ذنبٍ قد فَنِى

    Do not hold me accountable for my sin, for I am

    repentant of every sin now past.

  31. إن ذنبي مُوبقٌ أثْقَلني

    إنَّني أرجوكَ أنْ ترحَمني

    My sin is ruinous and has burdened me.

    I hope in You to have mercy on me.

  32. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    عبدك المذنب يبكى ذنبَهُ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    Your sinful servant weeps over his sin.

  33. فاكشف اللهم عنه كربَهْ

    واهدِه للخيرِ واشرحْ قلبَهْ

    Lift his distress from him, O God.

    Guide him to goodness and open his heart.

  34. لم يخب من كانَ يرجو ربَّهْ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    Whoever hopes in his Lord has not failed.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  35. أنتَ يا مولاى ذُو فضلٍ عظيمْ

    أنت يا مولى الورى مولَى كريمْ

    You, O my Master, possess great bounty.

    You, O Master of creation, are a generous Master.

  36. أنت يا ربي بأسرارِي عليمْ

    أنتَ يا مولاى رحمنٌ رحيمْ

    You, O my Lord, know all my secrets.

    You, O my Master, are all-merciful and merciful.

  37. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    أنت حسبي يوم يَشْقَى المجرمون

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    You suffice me on the day the sinners suffer,

  38. يومَ لا ينفع مالٌ وبنونْ

    يوم يَبْدُو كل ما تُخْفِى الظُنونْ

    the day neither wealth nor sons avail,

    the day all that thoughts conceal is revealed,

  39. من صوابٍ ظاهرٍ أو مِنْ مُجُونْ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    whether manifest righteousness or licentiousness.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  40. تبتُ يا ربَّاهُ من كلِّ كِذَابْ

    فاعفُ عنِّي وأجرْني مِنْ عَذَابْ

    I have repented, O my Lord, of every lie.

    Pardon me and shelter me from torment

  41. عندَ قومٍ ماؤُهم صفرٌ مذابْ

    غلّت الأيدي إلى أعلى الرِّقابْ

    among a people whose water is molten brass,

    whose hands are shackled high against their necks.

  42. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    تبتُ يا رباهُ من كلِّ مقالِ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    I have repented, O my Lord, of every utterance

  43. خالفَ الحقَّ ومن كلِّ نوالِ

    ليس يرضَى إن بدا عند السؤالٍ

    that contradicted the truth, and of every gain

    that is not approved when revealed at the questioning,

  44. من كلام فيه من قيلٍ وقالِ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    and of speech filled with hearsay and gossip.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  45. تائبٌ من كل بيع فاسدِ

    تائبٌ من كل وزن زائدِ

    I am repentant of every invalid sale.

    I am repentant of every excess in weighing.

  46. تائبٌ من كل ذنبٍ عائدِ

    تائبٌ من كلِّ فعلٍ عامِد

    I am repentant of every recurring sin.

    I am repentant of every deliberate deed.

  47. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    إن يكنْ ذنبي كأمواجِ البحارِ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    Even if my sin is like the waves of the seas,

  48. إن ربي أهلُ عفوٍ واغتفارِ

    قادرٌ ينزلني خيرَ قرارِ

    my Lord is possessed of pardon and forgiveness,

    able to settle me in the best resting place

  49. ويقينى مجتوى دارَ البوارِ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    and protect me from the misery of the abode of perdition.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  50. تبتُ يا ربَّاه من كل مديحٍ

    لم يجزْ فحواهُ في الشرعِ الصحيحِ

    I have repented, O my Lord, of every praise

    whose purport is not permitted by true sacred law,

  51. ومن الذمِّ المعمى والصريحِ

    في جهولٍ أو كريمٍ أو مليح

    and of censure, both veiled and explicit,

    of an ignorant person, a noble one, or a handsome one.

  52. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    تبتُ من كلِّ مقالٍ وعملْ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    I have repented of every utterance and deed

  53. ليسَ يرضَي عندهُ عز وجلّْ

    ومن العمدِ اقتصاداً والزللْ

    that is not pleasing in His sight, mighty and majestic,

    and of deliberate acts done in moderation, and lapses,

  54. والخَطا الجم والقولُ الخطلْ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    and abundant errors and foolish speech.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  55. تبتُ يا رباهُ من كل اغتيابِ

    لأولى الفضل وأصحابِ الصوابِ

    I have repented, O my Lord, of all backbiting

    against people of merit and those who uphold what is right,

  56. ومن القولِ المنافِي للكتابِ

    فاقبل اللهمَّ تَوبى ومتابي

    and of speech contrary to the Book.

    Accept, O God, my repentance and my return.

  57. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    كيفَ حالِي واحتيالي واصطبارِي

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    What will be my state, my resourcefulness, my endurance,

  58. حين لا ينفعُ عذري واعتذارِي

    بيميني حينَ أعطى أم بسارِي

    when neither my excuse nor my apology avails,

    when I am given it in my right hand—or my left?

  59. فأنا في قيدِ دلٍّ وإسَارِ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    For I am bound in humiliation and captivity.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  60. ما جوابي حينَ أعدى للحسابِ

    وأحاطتْ بي عظيماتُ اكتسابي

    What will I answer when I am summoned to account,

    with the enormities of my deeds surrounding me?

  61. ما يكونُ القولُ في ردِّ الجوابِ

    يومَ يشتد بنا سوءُ العقابِ

    What words will I offer in reply

    on the day punishment weighs so harshly upon us?

  62. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    يوم يدعون فريق في النعيمْ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    On the day they are summoned, one group will be in bliss

  63. ليس يفنى وفريقٌ في الجحيمْ

    فأجرني يا إلهي يا كريمْ

    that never perishes, and another group in Hell.

    So shelter me, O my God, O Generous One,

  64. من عذاب لهم فيها مُقيمْ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    from the torment that abides for them there.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  65. يا حبيبَ الله يا من عظَّمهْ

    ربه واختارَه بل كرَّمَهْ

    O beloved of God, O you whom

    his Lord magnified and chose—indeed, honored,

  66. واصطفاه مرسلا بل كلَّمهْ

    لم يزل يَتقْوُ هدى ما عَلَّمَهُ

    and selected as a messenger—indeed, spoke to.

    He never ceased [reciting] the guidance He taught him.

  67. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    يَا رسول الله ذَا الصيتِ الرفيعِ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    O Messenger of God, possessed of lofty renown,

  68. وعظيم القدر والحرز المنيعِ

    وأبَا الإحسانِ والحسنِ البديعِ

    of mighty rank, and an impregnable refuge,

    father of kindness and wondrous beauty,

  69. إنني أرجوكَ يا خيرَ شَفيعِ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    I hope in you, O best of intercessors.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  70. كن شفيعِي لا شفيعَ سِواكْ

    إنني متبعٌ نور هداكْ

    Be my intercessor: I have no intercessor but you.

    I follow the light of your guidance.

  71. فازَ من قد ظِل في ظل لِوَاكْ

    لا أهانَ اللهُ ربّي مَنْ رَجَاكَ

    Successful is whoever shelters beneath your banner's shade.

    May God, my Lord, not abase whoever hopes in you.

  72. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    ثم صلّ ربنا الباري عليك

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    Then may our Lord, the Creator, bless you,

  73. وَضَجِيعَيْك المقيمين لديْك

    وعلى مَنْ واقفٌ بين يديْكَ

    and your two companions in repose, who dwell beside you,

    and the one who stands before you,

  74. خادم الوحى الذي يَهْوِى إليك

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    the servant of revelation who swoops down to you.

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

  75. وهو رُوحُ القدسِ جبريلُ الأمينْ

    صفوةُ الرحمن والعقد الثمينْ

    And he is the Holy Spirit, Gabriel the Trustworthy,

    the All-Merciful's chosen one and precious necklace,

  76. خيرُ رسلِ الله ربِّ العالمينْ

    خادمُ المختارِ غوثُ المسلمينْ

    the best of the messengers of God, Lord of all worlds,

    the servant of the Chosen One, succor of the Muslims.

  77. عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنام

    وعلى أصحابه والتابعينْ

    Your pardon, O God, Lord of all creatures.

    And upon his companions and the Followers,

  78. جميعِ الأوليَا والمؤمنينْ

    من لدنْ آدَمِنا والآخرينْ

    all the saints and believers,

    from our Adam's time, and those who came later.

  79. رضى اللهُ عنهمْ أَجْمعينْ

    عفوك اللهم يا رب الأنامْ

    May God be pleased with them all.
