ما حذرنّ الدنيَا كما تحذر الحيَّة

ما حذرنّ الدنيَا كما تحذر الحيَّة

فالسم ناقعٌ وَسْطَ فيها

فالسم ناقعٌ وَسْطَ فيها

Beware of this world as you beware of a snake.

For deadly poison lies in the midst of its mouth.

فاجتنبْها واخلعْ عِذَارَك مِنها

فاجتنبْها واخلعْ عِذَارَك مِنها

فهي غَدَّارةٌ لِمنْ يَصْطَفِيهَا

فهي غَدَّارةٌ لِمنْ يَصْطَفِيهَا

So shun it, and cast off the bridle that binds you to it.

For it is treacherous to whoever chooses it.

لا تفترْ على عِيالِك إن كنت

لا تفترْ على عِيالِك إن كنت

غنيّاً واجمل والبَسْطَ فيهَا

غنيّاً واجمل والبَسْطَ فيهَا

Do not be remiss toward your dependents if you are

wealthy; act graciously and be open-handed in it.
