أَلاَ إنني في نعمةٍ ومسَرةٍ

أَلاَ إنني في نعمةٍ ومسَرةٍ

وصحةِ أعضاءِ بذكرِ محمدِ

وصحةِ أعضاءِ بذكرِ محمدِ

Behold, I am in blessing and joy,

Behold, I am in bliss and joy, in health of limbs,

And soundness of limbs through remembrance of Muhammad.

By the remembrance of Muhammad.

بَدَا لي من الأشواقِ ما لا أطيقُه

بَدَا لي من الأشواقِ ما لا أطيقُه

لرؤيةِ قبرِ الهاشميِّ محمدِ

لرؤيةِ قبرِ الهاشميِّ محمدِ

There arose in me a yearning I cannot bear

From yearning appeared to me what I cannot endure,

To see the grave of Muhammad the Hashemite.

To see the grave of the Hashimite, Muhammad.

تبدَّي لنا نورٌ بيثربَ حيثُما

تبدَّي لنا نورٌ بيثربَ حيثُما

وَصَلنا إلى رَبْع النبيِّ محمدِ

وَصَلنا إلى رَبْع النبيِّ محمدِ

A light appeared to us in Yathrib, wherever

Light appears to us in Yathrib wherever

We reached the abode of the Prophet Muhammad.

We reached the quarters of the Prophet Muhammad.

ثَنائي وتَذْكاري وَوُدِّي وطاعتي

ثَنائي وتَذْكاري وَوُدِّي وطاعتي

ومدحي لخيرِ العالمينَ محمدِ

ومدحي لخيرِ العالمينَ محمدِ

My praise, my remembrance, my love, and my obedience,

My praise, remembrance, affection and obedience,

And my praise are for Muhammad, the best of all creation.

And eulogy is for the best of mankind, Muhammad.

دنَا فتدَلى لا دنو مسافةٍ

دنَا فتدَلى لا دنو مسافةٍ

ولكنَّ إكراماً لقَدْرِ محمدِ

ولكنَّ إكراماً لقَدْرِ محمدِ

He drew near and descended—not a nearness in space,

He drew near and leaned down without distance,

But an honoring of Muhammad's stature.

But out of honor for the worth of Muhammad.

ذَر العذْلَ عني يا عذولُ فإنّني

ذَر العذْلَ عني يا عذولُ فإنّني

مقيمٌ عَلَى مَدْحي وَوُدّ محمدِ

مقيمٌ عَلَى مَدْحي وَوُدّ محمدِ

Leave off blaming me, O reproacher, for indeed I

Leave your reproach of me, O reproacher,

Am steadfast in my praise and love of Muhammad.

For I insist on my praise and love of Muhammad.

رِضَا اللهِ حَقٌّ في اتباع رسوله

رِضَا اللهِ حَقٌّ في اتباع رسوله

وطاعتُه يا صاح دينُ محمدِ

وطاعتُه يا صاح دينُ محمدِ

God's good pleasure is assured in following His Messenger,

God’s approval is right in following His Messenger,

And obeying him, O friend, is Muhammad's religion.

And obeying him, O companion, is Muhammad’s religion.

جَلاَ كل همٍّ عن فؤادي مديحُه

جَلاَ كل همٍّ عن فؤادي مديحُه

ولا مدح ينجو مثل مَدحِ محمدِ

ولا مدح ينجو مثل مَدحِ محمدِ

Praise of him cleared every sorrow from my heart,

Every care has departed my heart by his praise,

And no praise finds deliverance like praise of Muhammad.

And no eulogy succeeds like praising Muhammad.

حَلا مدحُه في كلِّ قلبٍ كما حلا

حَلا مدحُه في كلِّ قلبٍ كما حلا

بأسماءِ أهل الأرض إسمُ محمدِ

بأسماءِ أهل الأرض إسمُ محمدِ

His praise was sweet in every heart, just as sweet

His praise settled in every heart as his name settled

Was Muhammad's name among the names of earth's people.

Among the people’s names, the name Muhammad.

خزائنُه مملوءةٌ كرَماً فمن

خزائنُه مملوءةٌ كرَماً فمن

يَرَى في كراماتِ الرضا كمحمدِ

يَرَى في كراماتِ الرضا كمحمدِ

His treasuries are filled with generosity—who, then,

His treasuries are full of bounty, so who

Sees anyone like Muhammad in the honors of divine favor?

Sees the satisfactions of favors like Muhammad?

زماني تولّى وانْقَضى في بطالةٍ

زماني تولّى وانْقَضى في بطالةٍ

لأني بهِ لم أحْىِ مَدْح محمدِ

لأني بهِ لم أحْىِ مَدْح محمدِ

My time slipped away and ended in idleness,

My time has passed in idleness,

Because in it I did not keep Muhammad's praise alive.

For through it I did not live praising Muhammad.

شَهِدتُ بأنّ اللهَ فضّله علَى

شَهِدتُ بأنّ اللهَ فضّله علَى

جميع البرايَا مَن كمِثل محمدِ

جميع البرايَا مَن كمِثل محمدِ

I have borne witness that God favored him above

I bear witness that God favored him over

All creation—who is like Muhammad?

All creatures—who is like Muhammad?

صنائِعُه مشكورةٌ وفعالُه

صنائِعُه مشكورةٌ وفعالُه

مؤثرةٌ فارغبْ لدينِ محمدِ

مؤثرةٌ فارغبْ لدينِ محمدِ

His benefactions are gratefully acknowledged, and his deeds

His deeds are appreciated and his actions

Have their effect; so seek Muhammad's religion.

Effective, so yearn for the religion of Muhammad.

ضياءِ ذكاءِ من سنا نورِ وجهه

ضياءِ ذكاءِ من سنا نورِ وجهه

فما في الورى وجهٌ كوجْهِ محمدِ

فما في الورى وجهٌ كوجْهِ محمدِ

The brilliance of Dhukāʾ, the sun, comes from the radiance of his face's light,

The light of the brilliance of one whose face radiated light,

So no face among created beings is like Muhammad's face.

So there is no face in the world like Muhammad’s face.

طَمَى بحر شوقي في زيارة قبره

طَمَى بحر شوقي في زيارة قبره

فهلْ في الورَى قبرٌ كقبرِ محمدِ

فهلْ في الورَى قبرٌ كقبرِ محمدِ

The sea of my longing overflowed as I visited his grave;

The sea of my passion overflowed in visiting his grave,

So is there among created beings a grave like Muhammad's grave?

So is there a grave in the world like Muhammad’s grave?

ظِلالُ جنان الخُلْدِ والفوز في

ظِلالُ جنان الخُلْدِ والفوز في

غدٍ لمن يبتغى دينَ النبيِّ محمدِ

غدٍ لمن يبتغى دينَ النبيِّ محمدِ

The shade of the gardens of eternity, and triumph on

The shades of the gardens of eternity and success tomorrow

The morrow, are for whoever seeks the faith of the Prophet Muhammad.

Are for one who seeks the religion of the Prophet Muhammad.

عيونٌ به قَرَّتْ ودامَ سُرُورُها

عيونٌ به قَرَّتْ ودامَ سُرُورُها

لِمَا نظرت من حُسْن وَجه محمدِ

لِمَا نظرت من حُسْن وَجه محمدِ

Eyes found comfort in him, and their joy endured

Eyes by him were sated and their happiness remained

Because of the beauty they beheld in Muhammad's face.

At what they saw of the beauty of Muhammad’s face.

غرامي إليه دائمٌ ليس ينقضى

غرامي إليه دائمٌ ليس ينقضى

كما ليسَ يغنى ذكرُ مدح محمدِ

كما ليسَ يغنى ذكرُ مدح محمدِ

My ardent love for him endures, never ending,

My passion for him is everlasting, not ceasing,

Just as mention of Muhammad's praise never suffices.

As praising him can never be enough.

فتعساً لقومٍ كذَّبوا بمحمدٍ

فتعساً لقومٍ كذَّبوا بمحمدٍ

وطُوبَى لقومٍ آمنوا بمحمدِ

وطُوبَى لقومٍ آمنوا بمحمدِ

So woe to a people who denied Muhammad,

Woe to people who denied Muhammad,

And blessedness to a people who believed in Muhammad.

And blessed are people who believed in Muhammad.

قلائدُ شعرى زينتْ بمديحه

قلائدُ شعرى زينتْ بمديحه

وهل في قريض زانَ كاسم محمدِ

وهل في قريض زانَ كاسم محمدِ

The necklaces of my verse were adorned with praise of him;

The necklaces of my poetry are adorned by his praise,

And has anything adorned verse like Muhammad's name?

And is there any poem adorned like Muhammad’s name?

كفاهُ إلهُ الخلق كلَّ مخاتلٍ

كفاهُ إلهُ الخلق كلَّ مخاتلٍ

ودمر أهلَ الشركِ سيفُ محمدِ

ودمر أهلَ الشركِ سيفُ محمدِ

The God of creation shielded him from every deceiver,

God sufficed every deceitful against him,

And Muhammad's sword destroyed the people of polytheism.

And Muhammad’s sword destroyed the polytheists.

لحا الله من قد صَدَّ عَنْ دين أحمدٍ

لحا الله من قد صَدَّ عَنْ دين أحمدٍ

وشُلّتْ يدَا مَنْ عاب دين محمدِ

وشُلّتْ يدَا مَنْ عاب دين محمدِ

May God curse whoever has turned away from Ahmad's religion,

God humiliated whoever turned away from Ahmad’s religion,

And may the hands of whoever disparaged Muhammad's religion be paralyzed.

And the hands of those who disdained Muhammad’s religion were paralyzed.

مَدِيحى له دَيْنٌ وَدِيني مَديحه

مَدِيحى له دَيْنٌ وَدِيني مَديحه

فمَا خَاب مَن يتلو مديح محمدِ

فمَا خَاب مَن يتلو مديح محمدِ

My praise of him is a debt, and my religion is praising him;

My praise of him is a debt and his religion is my praise,

So none who recites Muhammad's praise has failed.

So one who recites Muhammad’s praise will never go wrong.

نَمَا بدنى لما شُغلتُ بذكره

نَمَا بدنى لما شُغلتُ بذكره

فيا ربّ وَفِّقني لِرُؤْيا محمدِ

فيا ربّ وَفِّقني لِرُؤْيا محمدِ

My body flourished when I was absorbed in remembrance of him;

My body grew when I was preoccupied by his remembrance,

So, O Lord, grant me a dream-vision of Muhammad.

So, O Lord, enable me to see Muhammad.

هو الموردُ العذبُ الذي طاب وِرده

هو الموردُ العذبُ الذي طاب وِرده

فيا رب أوردني حِياض محمدِ

فيا رب أوردني حِياض محمدِ

He is the sweet watering place whose draught is pleasant;

He is the sweet fresh spring whose drink was good,

So, O Lord, bring me to Muhammad's pools.

So, O Lord, make me drink from Muhammad’s ponds.

لأُمَّتُه سفي دينها خير أُمَّة

لأُمَّتُه سفي دينها خير أُمَّة

وهم خيرُ سادات الورى بمحمدِ

وهم خيرُ سادات الورى بمحمدِ

Indeed his community, [in] its religion, is the best community,

His nation wields his religion as a sword and they are

And through Muhammad they are creation's finest leaders.

The best leaders of mankind through Muhammad.

يسيرٌ على من يسّر اللهُ ربنا

يسيرٌ على من يسّر اللهُ ربنا

زيارةً قبرٍ للشفيع محمدِ

زيارةً قبرٍ للشفيع محمدِ

Easy, for whoever God our Lord grants ease,

It is easy, our Lord has made it easy,

Is visiting the grave of Muhammad, the intercessor.

To visit a grave, that of the intercessor Muhammad.

عليهِ صلاةُ اللهِ ما هبَّت الصَّبَا

عليهِ صلاةُ اللهِ ما هبَّت الصَّبَا

وما فاهَ مخلوقٌ بذكرِ محمدِ

وما فاهَ مخلوقٌ بذكرِ محمدِ

God's blessing be upon him as long as the east wind blows,

The blessings of God be upon him as long as the zephyr blows

And as long as any creature speaks in remembrance of Muhammad.

And a being breathes the remembrance of Muhammad.

أقول لنفسي قد رأيتُ خيالَه

أقول لنفسي قد رأيتُ خيالَه

ألا قَدِّمي خيراً لأِخْراكِ تُرْشَدِ

ألا قَدِّمي خيراً لأِخْراكِ تُرْشَدِ

I say to myself: I have indeed seen his image.

I say to myself, I have seen his image,

Take heed: send good deeds ahead for your hereafter, and you will be guided.

Come now, do good for your future, be guided.

فَهذِي هي البُشرى تفوزُ بها غداً

فَهذِي هي البُشرى تفوزُ بها غداً

برُؤْيا نبيٍّ فأحمدِ الله تُحْمَدِ

برُؤْيا نبيٍّ فأحمدِ الله تُحْمَدِ

For this is the glad news through which you will triumph tomorrow,

For this is the good news—you will succeed tomorrow

Through a dream-vision of a prophet—so praise God, and you will be praised.

By seeing a prophet—so praise God, you are praised,

وفتحٌ مبينٌ لا يكدرهُ قذىً

وفتحٌ مبينٌ لا يكدرهُ قذىً

ونصر عزيزٌ بالسرور مُؤَيَّدِ

ونصر عزيزٌ بالسرور مُؤَيَّدِ

And a clear victory that no mote can cloud,

And a clear opening that will not be marred by motes,

And a mighty triumph, upheld by joy,

And mighty victory with happiness, supported.

وعنوانُ خيراتٍ ومحوُ جرائمٍ

وعنوانُ خيراتٍ ومحوُ جرائمٍ

وفكُّ أسيرٍ بالذنوب مُقيَّدِ

وفكُّ أسيرٍ بالذنوب مُقيَّدِ

And a sign of good things, and the erasure of sins,

And the marks of blessings and erasing of sins,

And the freeing of a captive bound by sins,

And freeing a prisoner bound by sins.

وفضلٌ وإنذارٌ لمن كان غافلا

وفضلٌ وإنذارٌ لمن كان غافلا

وبُشْرَى وتَذْكارٌ لِمَنْ هو يهتدِى

وبُشْرَى وتَذْكارٌ لِمَنْ هو يهتدِى

And grace, and a warning to whoever was heedless,

And grace, though one was heedless,

And glad tidings and a reminder to whoever follows guidance.

And good tidings and remembrance for one guided.

فطوبى لعبدٍ وحَّد الله مُخلِصاً

فطوبى لعبدٍ وحَّد الله مُخلِصاً

ولم يُؤْذِ مخلوقاً وبُعْداً لمُعْتَدِى

ولم يُؤْذِ مخلوقاً وبُعْداً لمُعْتَدِى

So blessed is a servant who sincerely affirmed God's oneness,

So blessed is a servant who makes God One sincerely

And harmed no creature—and away with the transgressor!

And does not harm any creature—and fie on the transgressor.
