إِذا كنت في حَمان في عُقر دارهم

إِذا كنت في حَمان في عُقر دارهم

فلست أُبالي من أَبرَّ ومن فجر

فلست أُبالي من أَبرَّ ومن فجر

When I am among Hamman, in the heart of their homeland,

If you are in Haman, in the very heart of their abode

Then I care not who acts righteously and who acts wickedly.

Then I care not who shows mercy or who sheds blood

اذا بات جار القوم عند مضيعة

اذا بات جار القوم عند مضيعة

فجار بني حمان بات مع القمر

فجار بني حمان بات مع القمر

When a tribe's neighbor spends the night in an unprotected place,

If a neighbor of the tribe spends the night upset

Then the neighbor of Hamman's sons spends the night with the moon.

Then a Hamanite neighbor spends the night with luck

تبيت رماح الخط حول بيوتهم

تبيت رماح الخط حول بيوتهم

كأَنَّ الوعول ثم بتن مع البقر

كأَنَّ الوعول ثم بتن مع البقر

The spears of al-Khatt spend the night around their homes,

Spears of the distinguished line lie around their homes

As though ibex had spent the night there with cattle.

As if the howls, then the cows stayed with the cattle

اذا فزعوا جاءوا بها غير عزل

اذا فزعوا جاءوا بها غير عزل

فَلا أَجل واقٍ وكل دم هدر

فَلا أَجل واقٍ وكل دم هدر

When alarmed, they come with them, not unarmed;

If frightened, they came unprepared

Then no allotted lifespan offers protection, and all blood is forfeit.

So no truce, and every blood wasted

وان قُتلوا طابوا وطابَت قبورهم

وان قُتلوا طابوا وطابَت قبورهم

وان ظفروا فالجد عادته الظفر

وان ظفروا فالجد عادته الظفر

And if they are slain, pure are they, and pure are their graves;

And if killed, they died with honor and their graves honorable

And if they triumph, victory is good fortune's wont.

And if victorious, victory is their habit
