Yellow, though not from illness;

foolish, yet she understands the purpose;

Silly, understanding the purpose

عمياء تُبدي السَّنَنَ ال

قصدَ رَكوبٌ لم تُرَضْ

blind, she reveals the path—the

Blind, showing habits not intended

straight one; a mount never broken in.

Riding was not approved

يراكض الريحَ بها

فارسُها وما ركضْ

Upon her he races the wind—

The wind races through her

her rider—yet he has not galloped.

Her knight races yet hasn't raced

كأنه يبسط من

كأنه يبسط من

عنانها وما قبضْ

عنانها وما قبضْ

As though he lets out some of

As if extending

her rein, yet has not drawn it in.

Her reins yet hasn't pulled

لها ابن سوءٍ اسمه

لها ابن سوءٍ اسمه

في الأفْق وهو منخفضْ

في الأفْق وهو منخفضْ

She has a wicked son whose name

She has an evil son named

is on the horizon, though he is low.

On the horizon, and he is low

أخرسُ يُبدي كلَّ ما

دقَّ خفيَّاً وغمضْ

دقَّ خفيَّاً وغمضْ

Mute, he reveals all that

Mute, expressing everything

is subtle, hidden, and obscure.

That was subtly beaten and hidden

ترى دماً ترضعه

ولم تلدْ ولم تحضْ

You see her suckling him with blood,

You see blood she suckles

though she has neither given birth nor menstruated.

Yet she hasn't given birth or menstruated
