من فيضِ أيديكم الجزيلِ
Choosing their bridal dower by my own judgment
Endowed with your judgment, Mahra for dowry
From the abundant overflow of your hands.
From the outpouring of your generous hands

لا عَرفَتْ حَيرةَ العُدولِ
But the days turned me aside from it—
But time has turned me from it
May they never know the bewilderment of detours!
Knowing the confusion of change

If an age treats you harshly, long ago
If an era breeds loss through you
It was never free of treachery and calamity.
It will not be without deceit and injustice

How often rust has made corruption creep
And how much wisdom corrupts into ruin
Into the edges of a burnished, cutting sword;
Like the striking sparks from Indian steel

Suspicion over its longstanding pledge.
Oaths and covenants now void

So long as judgment is free of corruption
Wisdom is not safe from corruption
That harms it, and honor of obscurity,
That kindles while honor slumbers

Wealth, if its hills grow barren,
So if I bear money's disgrace
Will soon have them greened by rain.
The rain will revive it after a little

The sun must suffer an eclipse
Nor a full lifetime a setting.

Then both return, unchanged
By diminished light or departure.
With no less light or blemish

God's blessing on you is enough for me
Suffices me; may the Guardian's eye watch over you.
