Perhaps they share a secret with the two Eagles,
Perhaps she has a secret with the two eagles,
so let them pass, flying.
So let the airplanes pass by.

in their journey, while they intend another.
In her travel, while she wants something else.

To her eyes, secrets are all the same
they cross the month, or keep pace with a full moon.
Whether the moon has set or the full moon has risen.

Were they not to wade with the brilliant stars
And if they did not rip through the darkness of night
through the night's blackness, they would not have been made red.
With the blackness of their forms, they would not have been created red.

a stagnant, turbid remnant of summer.
With remains of summer - turbid.

I lodged there, where a people's riches lay;
I lodged there, and for people it had riches,
I left with their bounty, leaving poverty there.
And I was content with their generosity and left poverty.

They recounted its spears and were restless.

Rhymes die with the death of their maker,
The rhymes die with the death of their speaker
yet endure as a memorial to me and the man I praise.
And memory of me and the praised one remains.

after I had probed these people deeply.
Since I thoroughly probed the people.

finding you yourself wherever I sought a noble man.
I found you, wherever I sought the free.

I avoided, thanks to you, passion in my old age, as if
I were leading youth in its full vigor by the hand.
I avoided my intoxicated youth.

on a smooth cord, stoutly counter-twisted.
To a strong rope, twisted tightly.

I called you while disasters were taking place,
the herd of my self-respect, driving it all away.
My distracted soul, driving me back and forth.

Patience's daughters had been divorced from me,
And the daughters of patience had left me,
as though I had never been patience's son-in-law.
As if I was never a son-in-law of patience.

So you were my passionate brother and most affectionate comrade
my own self in support, my little son in devotion.
And my soul a helper, and built with piety.

You carried the burdens of time from me,
a young she-camel and a stout rope, freeing me from it.
Releasing me from them completely.

When tired hands had given up on forgiveness.

Though the winds strove for them, preserving them.
