جاريةٌ تعُزى إلى أبيها
ولمand has not تلِدْborne children ولمand has not يلِدْbegotten أبوهاher father
ولم تلِدْ ولم يلِدْ أبوها
A maiden attributed to her father,
A girl attributed to her father,
Yet she has not borne children, nor has her father begotten.
Though she was never born, nor was he.

سبتْ عيونا وسبتْ وجوها
If a gazing face captivates with beauty,
When a handsome face is praised,
She captivates eyes and captivates faces.
Eyes and faces are captivated.

A troop of hers rides upon the back of night;
A group of them ride the night’s back,
Within it, the days of time are counted.
Counting the days of time through her.

Whoever follows her lead in the morning goes astray,
Lost is he who hopes for her at dawn,
And the son of darkness does not fear losing his way.
For the son of darkness fears no loss of way.

Every soul hates her father, for
Every soul complains her father is so stern
Through him the strength that gladdens it perishes.
That through him perishes the might that humbles her.
