إِلى مَلِكٍ مِثلِ بَدرِ الدّجى

إِلى مَلِكٍ مِثلِ بَدرِ الدّجى

عَظيمِ الفِناءِ رَفيعِ الدِعَم

To a king like the full moon of the dark night,

To a king like the full moon of dusk,

Vast of courtyard, lofty of pillars,

Great of glory, lofty of pillars,

قَريعِ نِزارٍ غَداةَ الفَخارِ

قَريعِ نِزارٍ غَداةَ الفَخارِ

وَلَو شِئتُ قُلتُ جَميعَ الأُمَم

وَلَو شِئتُ قُلتُ جَميعَ الأُمَم

Chief of Nizar on the morning of boasting—

Vanquisher of the eloquent Nizār in the morning of majesty,

And had I wished, I would have said: of all nations.

Were I to will it, I would say all nations,

لَهُ كَفُّ جودٍ تُفيدُ الغِنى

لَهُ كَفُّ جودٍ تُفيدُ الغِنى

وَكَفٌّ تُبيدُ بِسَيفِ النِقَم

وَكَفٌّ تُبيدُ بِسَيفِ النِقَم

His is a hand of generosity that bestows wealth,

He has a palm of munificence giving wealth,

And a hand that destroys with the sword of retribution.

And a palm destroying with the sword of vengeance.
