فكأَنَّso, as though الغمامthe cloud صبٌّa passionate lover عَميدٌstricken with love
فكأَنَّ الغمام صبٌّ عَميدٌ
أَنَّhe groaned بالرَعدِwith thunder حُرقةًburning anguish واِشتِكاءand lament
أَنَّ بالرَعدِ حُرقةً واِشتِكاء
So the cloud seems a lover stricken with longing,
As though the clouds were mighty rivers pouring,
who groaned with thunder in burning anguish and lament;
As thunder rumbles in complaint and grief.
وَكأَنَّand as though البروقthe lightning flashes نارُthe fire جواهُhis heartache
وَكأَنَّ البروق نارُ جواهُ
وَالحَياand the rain دَمعُهُhis tears يَسيلُflows بكاءَin weeping
وَالحَيا دَمعُهُ يَسيلُ بكاءَ
and the lightning seems the fire of his heartache,
And lightning seems the flashing of its fire,
and the rain his tears, flowing as he weeps.
The rain its streaming tears in sad belief.
