فَبَقيتُ في العرصاتِ وَحدي بعدهم

فَبَقيتُ في العرصاتِ وَحدي بعدهم

حيران بَينَ معاهدٍ ما تُعهَدُ

So I remained alone in the courtyards after they had gone,

I remain alone in the campsites after them

Bewildered among haunts no longer recognized.

Perplexed between covenants never kept

فَكأَنَهُنَّ ديارُ ميٍّ إِذ خلت

فَكأَنَهُنَّ ديارُ ميٍّ إِذ خلت

وَكأَنَّني غَيلان فيها يُنشِدُ

وَكأَنَّني غَيلان فيها يُنشِدُ

So they seemed like Mayy's abodes when they lay deserted,

As if they were the abodes of Mayya when deserted

And I seemed like Ghaylan, reciting verse within them.

And as if I were a love-smitten singer within
