O you who dive into the deep seas of the horizon
In search of pearls of great worth,
Seeking the great pearl of glory

What crown are you adorning, inevitably
Will you wander in the darkness of the soul?
You wander in the gloom of the soul

You drink ether in cups of light
And find sweet the bitter sap of hopes.
And find sweet the water of desires

You draw tears from the eyes of misery,
You draw tears from the eyes of misery
As though tears were wine in jars.
As if tears were the wine of paradise

So you revolt, drunk,
Warning existence of the flood.
Threatening existence with the flood

Then live again with a thousand thousand tongues.
Then living again in a thousand tongues

You burn people for revival and purification

Seconds after it has gone out.
Even after extinction in moments

You enter the world like a fleeting apparition,
You make the world a passing vision
Vanishing like a hurried man's borrowed flame.
That fades like a shooting star

فضاءت بصائر العميان
You are the lamps that adorned Time's temple,
You are the lanterns that adorned the temple of time
So the inner eyes of the blind shone.
Illuminating the sights of the blind

خوَّفونا بالجنِّ والغيلان
If you appear like light in the cave at night,
If you appeared like light in a cave at night
They frighten us with jinn and ghouls.
You would frighten us with jinn and ghosts

Or come into view like a comet on the horizon,
Or if you crossed the horizon like a comet
They reply: “The Day of Resurrection is near.”
They would say: it's the day of judgement

اكتئابًا في وحشة البستان
Your whole life is like Jesus' night,
Your life is like the night of Jesus
In despondency amid the garden's solitude.
In anguish in the loneliness of the garden

Or like Moses between Pharaoh and the desert
Suffering at his people's hands what he suffers;
Suffering from his people's plight

Or like Taha, when he feared Quraysh's might,
Or like Taha when the Quraysh assaulted him
So he was afflicted by the rabble and the boys.
Tested by the riffraff and the children

You are the pure, free from every defilement,
You are the pure, without any filth
And the undefiled, free of the taint of idols.
The virtuous, without pagan misguidance

And if you passed by a bar
It is to cleanse it of filth.
It would be to cleanse it of impurities
