دَعوىa plea مُحبٍّof a lover فَيكُمamong you مَعروفُwell known
O Muhammad ibn Hamid, the just and well-regarded,
Muhammad son of Hamid, the just, the content
A lover's plea is well known among you.
A lover's claim, so do him a kindness
إِنّindeed الَّذيthe one whom قَرّبتَyou brought close غَيرُnot مُقَرَّبٍone brought close
إِنّindeed الَّذيthe one whom شرَّفتَyou honored غَيرnot مُشرّفِone honored
Indeed, the one you brought close is unworthy of closeness;
The one you brought near is not brought near
Indeed, the one you honored is unworthy of honor.
The one you ennobled is not ennobled
وَغدٌa scoundrel يَرىhe regards الصلواتِthe prayers نافِلَةًvoluntary لَهُfor him

وَيَقولُand he professes بِالتَعطيلِin denying divine attributes وَالتَحريفand distortion
A scoundrel who regards the prayers as optional for himself,
And tomorrow he will see the voluntary prayers as superfluous for him
And professes denial of divine attributes and distortion.
And will speak of invalidation and distortion
إِنّindeed القَريبَthe kinsman مِنfrom القَريبِthe kinsman مُناسِبٌa fitting match
وَالأَقرَبونand the nearest kin أَحَقُّmost entitled بِالمَعروفِto kindness
Indeed, kin is a fitting match for kin,
Indeed the near one to the near one is befitting
And the nearest kin are most entitled to kindness.
And the nearest ones are most deserving of kindness
