زواهرُ آيات حوينا بها العزّا

زواهرُ آيات حوينا بها العزّا

لبسنا بها التقوى ولم نلبس الخزّا

لبسنا بها التقوى ولم نلبس الخزّا

Radiant verses through which we gained glory,

The adornments of His signs we wore, with them we adorned our honor

Through them we clothed ourselves in piety, not in silken cloth.

With them we wore piety and did not wear disgrace

زواجرُ إن يُدعى مع اللّه غيره

زواجرُ إن يُدعى مع اللّه غيره

فمذ طَلَعتْ لم تعبد اللاتُ والعُزى

فمذ طَلَعتْ لم تعبد اللاتُ والعُزى

Stern admonitions if another is invoked alongside God;

The deterrents - if others are worshipped alongside Allah

Since they dawned, al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā have not been worshipped.

Since it rose, Lat and Uzza were not worshipped

زوى وَجهَه عنها العدو ضلالةً

زوى وَجهَه عنها العدو ضلالةً

فحزّت بحدّ السيف هامته حزّا

فحزّت بحدّ السيف هامته حزّا

The enemy turned his face away from them in error,

The enemy turned his face away from it out of misguidance

So they cut his head clean off with the sword's edge.

So it cleaved his skull with the edge of the sword, cleaving

زوالُ سماءِ العزّ كانَ بأحمد

زوالُ سماءِ العزّ كانَ بأحمد

فلم يمسك الكفار من بعده عزّا

فلم يمسك الكفار من بعده عزّا

The vault of glory fell through Ahmad,

The decline of the honor of the sky was due to Ahmad

So the unbelievers retained no glory after him.

So after him the disbelievers could not hold onto any honor

زوى بعدَ ما أهلكن عاد زمانه

زوى بعدَ ما أهلكن عاد زمانه

فحزّوا وجزت هامهم في الوغى جزا

فحزّوا وجزت هامهم في الوغى جزا

He withdrew after they destroyed the ʿĀd of his time,

It wiped out, after it destroyed the people of Aad in their time

So they were cut down, and their heads were sheared clean off in battle.

So they were cut down, and their skulls were requited in battle

زواخره أغرقن فرعون عصره

زواخره أغرقن فرعون عصره

فأودى وبزّته ملابسه بزّا

فأودى وبزّته ملابسه بزّا

His surging floods drowned the Pharaoh of his age,

Its last ones drowned Pharaoh in his time

So he perished, and they stripped him utterly of his garments.

So he perished while his garments were shredded to pieces

زواهي شياطين الضلال مدحتهم

زواهي شياطين الضلال مدحتهم

وتلكَ التي أزتّهم للظى أزّا

وتلكَ التي أزتّهم للظى أزّا

The vainglorious devils of error praised them,

The allure of the devils of misguidance, their praise

And those were the ones that drove them hard toward the blaze.

And those which led them to evil led most evilly

زواحفُ خيل اللّه تقدمُها الظبا

زواحفُ خيل اللّه تقدمُها الظبا

وسمرُ القنا لزّت جموعهم لزّا

وسمرُ القنا لزّت جموعهم لزّا

The advancing hosts of God's cavalry are led by sword blades,

The crawling of Allah's horses, the hyenas precede them

And the brown spear shafts pierced their massed ranks with force.

And the foxes have torn their groups to shreds

زواجرُ تغزو القوم في عقر دارهم

زواجرُ تغزو القوم في عقر دارهم

فما لهم صبرٌ إذا عاينوا الغُزّا

فما لهم صبرٌ إذا عاينوا الغُزّا

Stern admonitions assail the people in the heart of their home,

The deterrents raid the people in the core of their homes

So they cannot stand firm when they behold the raiders.

So they have no patience when they witness the raiders

زوامر من غيظِ عليهم كأنها

زوامر من غيظِ عليهم كأنها

قواصفُ هزت كل رابية هزّا

قواصفُ هزت كل رابية هزّا

Roaring in fury against them, as though they were

Decrees of wrath against them as if they are

Crashing thunderclaps that shook every hill violently.

Ships that shook every well-set tent
