سلاماًa greeting فقدfor indeed أفنىconsumed الزمانtime ذمائيmy last remnant of life
Is there no one to convey to the Messenger's grave
My hopes to reach the Prophet's tomb I send
a greeting? For time has consumed my last remnant of life.
Greetings, though time has wasted my glory
أمانةan entrusted message مشتاقone who yearns حمىguarded الدمعthe tears جفنهhis eyelid
فماصامso it did not halt طيفphantom النومsleep خوفfear of حماءguarded ground
A trust from one who yearns, whose tears have guarded his eyelid,
A longing lover whose tears fill his eyes
so sleep's phantom would not halt, fearing guarded ground.
That sleep's specter doesn't fast from fear of ardour
أمانيmy wishes كانتwere ليfor me زيارةvisiting قبرهhis grave
وأرضىand I am content بروضwith a garden يانعflourishing وسماءand sky
My wishes were to visit his grave,
It was my wish to visit his tomb
and I would be content with a flourishing garden and sky.
And I'm content with the meadows and sky

زمانtime أرانيshowed me النقصdecline بعدafter نماءgrowth
My spear-shaft, once so finely straight, was bent
My prime after its perfect balance
by time, which showed me decline after growth.
Time showed me loss after growth
أماتkilled قوىthe strengths of الأعضاءthe limbs إلاexcept أقلهاthe least of them
وأعطشand made thirsty روضيmy garden حينwhen أنضبdrained مائيmy water
It killed my limbs' strength, save the smallest part,
It weakened my limbs except the weakest
and parched my garden when it drained my water.
And left my meadow thirsty when my water dried
أماريI dispute with مشيبيmy gray hair فيover سنينyears وقدthough already رقاhas risen
فؤاديmy heart علىupon قوسيmy bow فكيفhow, then رمائيmy shooting
I dispute with my gray hair over the years, though already risen
My hair turned white in years though still soft
is my heart upon my bow—how, then, can I shoot?
My heart on my bow, so how can I shoot?
رمانيshot me الردىdeath لوif only بلغتنيbrought me ناقتيmy she-camel

Death has shot me—if only my she-camel had brought me there,
Ruin threw me down; if my she-camel reached me
and had not left me thirsty among the thirsty.
She wouldn't leave me thirsty among the thirsty

Muhammad is the leader of all the messengers,
Muhammad is the imam of all prophets
and the noblest envoy among the noble.
And the noblest emissary of the noble
أمانprotection الورىhumankind مماfrom what يخافونthey fear حبُّهlove for him
فياso, O حبُّlove شعشعmingle أدمعيmy tears بدماءِwith blood
Love for him is humankind's refuge from what they fear.
The world's safety from what they fear is in loving him
So, O love, mingle my tears with blood!
So love that ignited my tears with blood

Grief has killed my eye and set my ribs ablaze.
It killed my sorrow, set my ribs aflame
So take me by the hand, O most merciful of the merciful.
So take my hand, O most merciful of the merciful
