If your soul asks you to see us,

The valiant men holding dominion over al-Jawf,

You will see us at al-Qararah, without doubt,

    We lead them—marked, noble steeds.

We wear coats of mail, each ample and polished,

And swords we inherited from ʿAd.

We shall defend al-Jawf as long as Maʿin stands

At its lower end, facing ʿUrrad.

And we drive whoever competes with us for it

To the outlying lands of al-Yamamah or Jurrad.

We spend the night with foxes wherever they bed down,

And make the gum of their ʿurfut trees our provisions.
