I am indeed ashamed before the horsemen to be seen

On enemy soil, a stuffed calf-hide for the fond, pregnant she-camels.

And I am indeed ashamed, when war girds itself,

To let down, in the face of war, the robe of a man at peace.

I am not lacking in zeal for honor in the fray,

Nor one who shuns committing crimes in peacetime,

Nor one who pauses over the consequences of what

I intend among my death-dealing designs.

But I am single-minded in resolve, pressing forward

Into the engulfing depths of ever-worsening calamity.

Seldom wavering in judgment in war, valiant,

Undivided of heart when great calamities descend.
