لَعَمرُكَ ما مَروانُ يَقضي أُمورَنا

لَعَمرُكَ ما مَروانُ يَقضي أُمورَنا

وَلَكِنَّ ما يَقضي لَنا بِنتُ جَعفَرِ

وَلَكِنَّ ما يَقضي لَنا بِنتُ جَعفَرِ

By your life, Marwan does not settle our affairs;

By your life! Marwan does not decide our affairs

Rather, Ja‘far’s daughter settles them for us.

Rather, the daughter of Ja'far decides for us

فَيا لَيتَها كانَت عَلَينا أَميرَةً

فَيا لَيتَها كانَت عَلَينا أَميرَةً

وَليتَكَ يا مَروانُ أَمسَيتَ ذا حَرِ

وَليتَكَ يا مَروانُ أَمسَيتَ ذا حَرِ

Oh, if only she were our ruler,

Oh, if only she were our ruler

And if only you, Marwan, had come to possess a vulva.

And if only you, O Marwan, were without authority
