وكأنهُ قمرٌ من الخجَلِ استتَر

وكأنهُ قمرٌ من الخجَلِ استتَر

I glimpsed your apparition behind the veils of predawn.

And it was like a moon that hid itself out of shyness.

والشوقُ في جنبيَّ رعدٌ بارقٌ

والشوقُ في جنبيَّ رعدٌ بارقٌ

هزّ الفؤادَ ففاضَ عِشقاً وانهمرْ

هزّ الفؤادَ ففاضَ عِشقاً وانهمرْ

And longing within my sides was thunder flashing with lightning.

It shook my heart, which overflowed with passion and poured forth.

فتلاقت الأرواحُ بعد شتاتِها

فتلاقت الأرواحُ بعد شتاتِها

وحنَا علينا العُمرُ وابتسمَ القدَر

وحنَا علينا العُمرُ وابتسمَ القدَر

Then the souls met after their scattering.

And life bent tenderly over us, and fate smiled.

وضَمَمْتُ حُبكِ في السماءِ كأنني

وضَمَمْتُ حُبكِ في السماءِ كأنني

تلكَ الغيومُ وأنتِ زخّاتُ المطرْ

تلكَ الغيومُ وأنتِ زخّاتُ المطرْ

And I embraced your love in the sky, as though I were

those clouds, and you the showers of rain.
