وطعنتنيand you stabbed me ياO ظالميmy oppressor فيin الخاصِرةthe flank
And you killed my heart when you hurt me.
And you killed my heart when you hurt me.
And stabbed me, O my oppressor, in the flank.
And you stabbed me in the flank, O my oppressor.
أورثْتَنيyou bequeathed me وجَعاًpain وجَرحاًand a wound غائراًdeep
وسقَيْتنيand you made me drink مُرّbitterness الحياةlife الغادِرةtreacherous
You left me pain and a deep wound,
You left me with pain and a deep wound,
and made me drink the bitterness of treacherous life.
And made me drink the bitterness of treacherous life.
لوif كانwas ذنبُكَyour offense عابراًfleeting لغفرتُهُI would have forgiven it
وسترتُهُand I would have concealed it حتىuntil أنالَI attain الآخرةthe Hereafter
Had your offense been fleeting, I would have forgiven it
If your offense had been fleeting, I would have forgiven it,
and concealed it, that I might gain the Hereafter.
And concealed it until I reached the Hereafter.
لكنّbut ظُلماًan injustice يستثيرُstirs مواجعيmy pains
ومدامعيand my tears، ماكنتُI was not يوماًever غافِرَهْforgiving it
But an injustice that stirs my anguish—
But an injustice that stirs my pain
and my tears—I could never forgive it.
And my tears—I would never forgive it.
صَعبٌhard علىfor قلبيmy heart يُسامحُto forgive ظالماًa wrongdoer
فالظلمُfor injustice يبقىremains غائراًdeeply embedded فيin الذاكرةmemory
A wound upon my heart—can it forgive an oppressor?
It is hard for my heart to forgive a wrongdoer,
For injustice remains deeply embedded in memory.
For injustice remains lodged deep in memory.
سأبُثّI will pour out للرحمنِto the Most Merciful كلall مواجعيmy pains
وأُحيلُand I will refer مَظلمتيmy grievance ليومِto the Day of الآخرةthe Hereafter
I shall pour out all my anguish to the All-Merciful,
I will pour out all my pain to the Most Merciful,
and defer my grievance until the Day of the Hereafter.
And defer my grievance to the Day of the Hereafter.
