The life flourished and the streams gushed
And the pools and watering places overflowed.
And the springs overflowed and the ponds filled

Goodness has spread over the land
So the earth's face is luxuriant growth;
And the face of earth is verdant

And the sky's brow is laden with clouds
And between these two is an intervening breeze;
Between the two blows a separating wind

With it, the predawn hours and late afternoons grow dewy.
With it the dawns and the evenings dew
As though the vegetation were an immense sea,
As if the vegetation is a vast ocean

And the towering trees are ships in swift motion,
And the lofty palms are sailing ships

Inclining now this way, now that way
The south wind and the north winds set them swaying.
Swayed by the south winds and the breezes

Their date clusters are wound around their necks,
Winding at their stems and flexuous
Their tresses are tied atop their heads.
Clustered at their heads are the tresses

Of the unripe dates upon them, some are deep red and some pale,
Among them the ripe dates have stalks and clusters
Dyed, as though they were fingertips;
Red as if they were fingers

As though they were lanterns made of gold,
As though of gold pieces were the pendants
Their chains are made of date-cluster stalks.
With silver chains binding them

You would think it sorrowful, asking questions.
You'd imagine them sad, questioning

For them are anklets of golden bells

فَصَاعِدٌ وَدَافِقٌ وَنَازِلُ
They revolve like bright stars, with stations of their own:
Revolving like meteors, fixed are their stations
So one rises, one pours, and one descends.
Some ascending, others falling and others low

And the water flows between the groves;
And the water amid the meadows is flowing
The dense thickets bend over its banks,
Sheltered by its banks, the ripplets

And time will one day devour man;
And time for man is ever consuming
And everything in time comes to nothing.
And all things in time are unreal
