Strive to conceal your inner thoughts from your enemy;
Conceal your inner thoughts from your foe though with toil unceasing
And beware: do not disclose them to a companion.
And beware! Reveal them never to friend though he be pleasing
فَلَرُبَّمَاfor perhaps انْقَلَبَturned الصَّدِيقُthe friend مُعَادِياًhostile
وَلَرُبَّمَاand perhaps رَجَعَbecame الْعَدُوُّthe enemy صَدِيقَاa friend
For a friend may well turn hostile,
For ofttimes the trusted friend turns to be a bitter foe
And an enemy may well become a friend.
And ofttimes the foe, once hated, proves a friend also
