لَمْdid not أَصْطَبِرْI endure patiently بَعْدَكَafter you مِنْfrom سَلْوَةٍsolace
لَكِنْbut تَصَبَّرْتُI forced myself to be patient عَلَىupon جَمْرِburning coals
My patience after you did not come from solace,
I have not found solace since you left
but I forced myself to endure upon burning coals.
But I have endured the burning embers
وَشِيمَةُand the way الْعَاقِلِthe wise man فِيin رُزْئِهِhis loss
أَنْto يَسْبقَprecede السَّلْوَةَsolace بِالصَّبْرِwith patience
And the wise man's way in his loss
It is the way of the wise in adversity
is to put patience before solace.
To have patience precede solace
