يَمُوتُ مَعِي سِرُّ الصَّدِيقِ وَلَحْدُهُ

يَمُوتُ مَعِي سِرُّ الصَّدِيقِ وَلَحْدُهُ

ضَمِيرٌ لَهُ الْجَنْبَانِ مُكْتَنِفَانِ

ضَمِيرٌ لَهُ الْجَنْبَانِ مُكْتَنِفَانِ

My friend's secret dies with me, and its grave

The secret of my friend dies with me, as does his grave

Is my inmost heart, enclosed by my two flanks.

A conscience, flanked by both of my sides

وَأُسْأَلُ يَوْمَ الْبَعْثِ عَنْ كُلِّ مَا وَعَى

وَأُسْأَلُ يَوْمَ الْبَعْثِ عَنْ كُلِّ مَا وَعَى

سَمَاعٌ وَمَا فَاهَتْ بِهِ شَفَتَانِ

سَمَاعٌ وَمَا فَاهَتْ بِهِ شَفَتَانِ

And on Resurrection Day I shall be asked about all that was retained

And I will be asked, on the day of resurrection, about all I was entrusted with

By my hearing, and all that my two lips uttered.

فَأُنْكِرُهُ مِنْ بَيْنِ مَا فِي صَحِيفَتِي

فَأُنْكِرُهُ مِنْ بَيْنِ مَا فِي صَحِيفَتِي

وَأَجْحَدُهُ إِذْ يَشْهَدُ الْمَلَكَانِ

وَأَجْحَدُهُ إِذْ يَشْهَدُ الْمَلَكَانِ

So I shall deny it among the entries in my record,

So I will deny it, from amongst what is in my scroll

And disavow it when the two angels testify.

And disavow him, when the two angels bear witness

وَذَنْبِي فِي ذَا الْجَحْدِ أَيْسَرُ مَحْمَلاً

وَذَنْبِي فِي ذَا الْجَحْدِ أَيْسَرُ مَحْمَلاً

مِنَ الذَّنْبِ فِي إِفْشَائِهِ بِلِسَانِي

مِنَ الذَّنْبِ فِي إِفْشَائِهِ بِلِسَانِي

And my sin in this denial is a lighter burden

And my sin in such denial will be a lighter burden

Than the sin of divulging it with my tongue.
