Is it a crescent of earth or a crescent of heaven

That has bathed time and its people in light?

Flashes burst from him, their gleam cleaving

The veils of darkness; then it surged in brilliance.

And his brow's lines appeared, becoming a radiant adornment

For kingship, above the thrones of al-Jawza.

A light was born between a rising full moon

At the zenith of his might and a sun of eminence.

How noble his appearance—a crescent before which ever

The crescent of every banner bows!

It is a birth whose light has filled al-Kinanah,

So she rejoiced in good fortune and happiness.

Through him the world donned the beauty of her youth,

And displayed her charms like a beautiful maiden.

So rejoice in gallant Abd al-Qadir, who

Has come to you, striding proudly in radiance and eminence.

And rejoice in him and his brother, O son of Muhammad,

In the shelter of a realm with wide-spreading shade.

And surely Alawi stars will rise,

Dispelling the darkness of doubt with counsel.

Among them, leaders of assemblies and mighty armies,

On a day of rulings and a day of battle.

And lightning flashes pouring bounty's dew among us,

And thunderbolts swooping down among the enemies.

And I seem to see you rising high among them,

Like the full moon among the stars of the green sky.

So delight in your might, O king, and never cease

To hold in your hands the keys of exalted glory.

May your courtyard ever be thronged, and you congratulated,

Amid blessings joined to enduring life.
