إِذَا مَا الْمَرْءُ أَعْقَبَ ثُمَّ أَوْدَى

إِذَا مَا الْمَرْءُ أَعْقَبَ ثُمَّ أَوْدَى

تَعَادَلَ فَهْوَ مَوْجُودٌ وَفَانِي

تَعَادَلَ فَهْوَ مَوْجُودٌ وَفَانِي

If a man leaves offspring and then dies,

He stands in balance: he is both present and gone.

وَمَا الدُّنْيَا سِوَى أَخْذٍ وَرَدٍّ

وَمَا الدُّنْيَا سِوَى أَخْذٍ وَرَدٍّ

وَهَدْمٍ نَابَ عَنْهُ بِنَاءُ بَانِي

وَهَدْمٍ نَابَ عَنْهُ بِنَاءُ بَانِي

And the world is nothing but taking and returning,

And demolition replaced by a builder’s construction.
