رَضِيتُI was content بِالْبَيْنِwith separation إِيثَارَاًin preference عَلَىover سَكَنٍdwelling
فِيamong مُعْشَرٍa group of people وَدُّهُمْtheir affection إِنْif أَخْلَصُواthey are sincere مَرَضُa disease
I was content with separation, preferring it to dwelling
I chose separation out of preference over living
Among people whose affection, even if sincere, is a disease.
Among a people whose affection, even if sincere, would be a torment
فَمَاso not أَسِيتُI grieved لِشَيءٍfor anything كُنْتُI used to أَمْلِكُهُI possess it
فِيin فَقْدِthe loss of أَوْجُهِهِمْtheir faces عَنْfor ثَرْوَتِيmy wealth عِوَضُrecompense
So I grieved for nothing that I once possessed;
So I have not been made unhappy by anything I once possessed
In no longer seeing their faces lies recompense for my wealth.
Losing sight of their faces was recompense for my wealth
