Ah, many a fair-skinned maiden
O Lord, a fair maid of noble race
Came with a child as black as tar.
Bore a child as black as coal in place;
أَخْرَجَهُHe brought him forth مِنْfrom لُجَّةِthe depths الأَنْوَارِthe lights
مَنْHe who أَخْرَجَbrought forth اللَّيْلَthe night مِنَfrom النَّهارِthe day
He brought him forth from the depths of light—
From out the sunshine he was brought to be,
He who brought the night forth from the day.
He who brought night out of light's company;
سُبْحَانَهُGlory be to Him مِنْas فَاعِلٍone who acts مُخْتَارِfreely choosing
Glory be to Him, who acts of His own free will!
Glory to Him, th'Almighty Artisan!
