وَافى رسولُكم وَأعفاج الحشا

وَافى رسولُكم وَأعفاج الحشا

منّي تموجُ بهيضةٍ حرّاءِ

منّي تموجُ بهيضةٍ حرّاءِ

Your messenger arrived while the entrails

Your messenger has come and the wilderness stirs

Within me churned with a burning gastric illness.

With undulating hills of burning sands

وَذكاءُ قَد أخذَ الغروب يمينها

وَذكاءُ قَد أخذَ الغروب يمينها

أَخذَ اِنطلاقِ البطنِ فضل ذكاءِ

أَخذَ اِنطلاقِ البطنِ فضل ذكاءِ

And Dhukāʾ, the sun—sunset had already seized her right hand,

And the sun's brilliance has taken the dusk by the hand

As looseness of the bowels seized what remained of my wit.

As it heads to set from the belly of the hills

لَم يمضِ آنٌ منذُ أيّامٍ خلَت

لَم يمضِ آنٌ منذُ أيّامٍ خلَت

إلّا وعبدكمُ حليفُ إناءِ

إلّا وعبدكمُ حليفُ إناءِ

Not a moment has passed in these past days

Not a day has passed since those days now gone

Without your servant keeping company with a chamber pot.

Except your servant was a boon companion to the cup

فَاِنعَم بِتلويمي ليالي أربعاً

فَاِنعَم بِتلويمي ليالي أربعاً

حيثُ اِنقضى أجلٌ بلا اِستعفاءِ

حيثُ اِنقضى أجلٌ بلا اِستعفاءِ

So kindly grant me four nights’ respite,

So grant me four nights of revelry

Since a deadline has elapsed without a request to be excused.

Now that my term is up, with no appeal

وَبقيتَ مَحروسَ الجنابِ منعّماً

وَبقيتَ مَحروسَ الجنابِ منعّماً

أَبداً مُعافى مِن أذى الأدواءِ

أَبداً مُعافى مِن أذى الأدواءِ

And may you remain, your person protected, blessed with comfort,

And you remain revered, protected, blessed

Forever spared the harm of diseases.

Ever healthy, safe from all harm's way
