O my lord, my judgment has sought out none but you for me,

nor is a scout mistrusted in counseling his people.

فأنزلت آمالي إذن من فنائكم

فأنزلت آمالي إذن من فنائكم

بواد سقاه الجود صيب وبله

بواد سقاه الجود صيب وبله

So I lodged my hopes, then, within your precincts,

in a valley that generosity watered with its heavy downpour.

وأرسيت عزمي منك وهو ملجج

وأرسيت عزمي منك وهو ملجج

ببر طما بالبر أبحر فضله

ببر طما بالبر أبحر فضله

And in you I anchored my resolve, though it was out at sea,

on a shore whose seas of bounty swelled with goodness.

يرى المجد أن يأتي من البر حزنه

يرى المجد أن يأتي من البر حزنه

وليس من المجد الجنوح لسهله

وليس من المجد الجنوح لسهله

He sees glory in treading virtue’s rugged ground,

and there is no glory in turning toward its easy ground.

أقول لقلبي وهو ما هو جائش

أقول لقلبي وهو ما هو جائش

حري بمثلي أن يلوذ بمثله

حري بمثلي أن يلوذ بمثله

I say to my heart, agitated as it is:

It befits one like me to seek refuge in one like him.

وفي الود والانصاف والوعد كافل

وفي الود والانصاف والوعد كافل

إليه من المولى بإنجاح سؤله

إليه من المولى بإنجاح سؤله

And in affection, fairness, and the promise lies a guarantee

from my lord to him that his request will be granted.
