    بِاليمنِ هلّ وَبِالسعادة يبدرُ

    A moon, through whom glory's face shines forth;

with good fortune he rose as a crescent, and with happiness he waxes full.

His signs of promise—already encircled by

his halos—have nearly shown him as a dazzling full moon.

By God, how noble his risings, and how

noble he is, where the full moons' nightly course falls short!

His appearance captivates the eyes, just as

    his inner character captivates minds.

Rejoice in him, Abu Abd al-Ilah; though

joy embraces all, your share is greater.

So let fathers rejoice in one like him, for

his virtues dazzle and his stock is noble.

He will raise the edifice of learning, just as

his venerable, most renowned grandfather has raised it.

And a good omen gave you glad tidings in a chronicler's words:

Umar—through him the Riyahi lineage flourishes.
