صُبحاً بدا من رأيِ خيرِ الدينِ

أَغنى العيان لَه عن التبيينِ
A dawn appeared from Khayr al-Din's counsel;
The dawn emerged from the insight of Khayr al-Din
the sight of it made explanation needless.
It enriched the eyes, making explanation unnecessary

جَهلٍ فَزَحزحها بنورِ يقينِ
It assailed the darkness of oppression and of
It turned away the darkness of injustice and ignorance
ignorance, dispelling it with the light of certainty.
And dispelled it with the light of certainty

في جاهليّةِ ضلّة وفتونِ
Through it obscurity departed, and a stumbling wanderer gained sight
Error and misguidance in the days of ignorance vanished
amid ignorance, error, and seduction.
And the lost one in the oblivion of trial and discord saw clearly

واِرتاحَ مرتاعٌ إِلى التأمينِ
He who took waywardness as a shield grew alarmed,
The maker of sinful refuges was startled
and the frightened found comfort in assurances of safety.
And the startled one was reassured and felt safe

Through the cold night stole the coolness of its breeze,
The coolness of its breeze circulated in the night of frost
into every illness buried within souls.
In every hidden malady of the souls

The shade of security's bonds spread, and they ripened;
The shade of the banners of security lengthened
and justice's singer artfully varied his melodies.
And the crops of just rule ripened in cultivation

No wonder if humankind praised their night journey
No wonder the people praised their happy travel
at a dawn of good counsel amid pitch-black nights.
With the dawn of sincere advice in pleasurable nights

For the people, tended and tending, were arrayed
Creation is well-pastured and the shepherd organized
like smooth coats of mail and their closely woven mesh.
The system of salvation and its coded sequence

Good counsel among them, and their mutual restraint
Advice among them and mutual dissuasion
from wrongdoing, were like its tightly fitted rings.
From every disliked thing, like its scattered crumbs

بُقيا عَلى دنياهم والدينِ
A covenant was theirs, and a trust they safeguarded,
They have a covenant and a trust they observe
out of care for their worldly life and religion.
Remaining over their world and religion

وَالعدلُ سلطانٌ لكلّ مملّك

Justice is sovereign over every enthroned ruler,
Justice is the authority of every empowered king
judging him with manifest authority.
Who rules with clear authority over it

So he whose justice reaches most widely has the broadest rule,
The most just of them has the most encompassing authority
and the longest reach, in force or gentleness.
And the most righteous arm in leniency or severity

The laxity of governors is a latent dismissal,
The leniency of governors is latent dismissal
and negligence toward the trust of authority.
And complacency in the trust of empowerment

Indeed, the seven heavens and seven earths shrank from the trust—
The trust is compassion - the Glorious was too shy
from bearing it—and feared their backs would weaken,
To impose it on them, though firm of structure

Knowing that uprightness, by God's command
of God is a burden weighing down every steadfast one.
Is a burden that bends every sturdy pillar

Yet it was man who shouldered its burden,
But man volunteered to bear it
so the rightly guided might be distinguished from the beguiled.
So an inspired guide might be distinguished from the tempted

Sacred law is a path to happiness in customary life
Religious law is the path of happiness in convention
and worship, gentle and free of rugged terrain.
And worship, facile without gloom

scattered through desert wastes and mountain spurs.
Are scattered in passes and uncouth lands

Thus for lone wanderers to plunge into their dangers
So the deviant plunge into their perils
is a reckless hazard without a companion or fellow traveler.
As prey without companion or pair

Why didn't the people of perfection and its essence
come from every wayward soul sheltered in watering pens.
Pounce on it with claws of vindication?

by the hands of adversity with harm and humiliation?
Clarifying, while they are slain by the arts of temptation

Do they hope, unable to compete,
their strength wears away as they hover around nests.

Since it made its own rule in affairs

to catch him? A fool's wish!
Who understood the highest minds of the highbred

He is the one whose wisdom encompassed kingdoms
when its parts' separate pursuits have scattered it!

who leaves lizards on friendly terms with fish.
Binding the unfettered and freeing the captive

He established clearly the laws of protection
were it not among Khayr al-Din's concerns.
And the paths of civilization and progress

The critics examined it only to record

To you it unveils the treasures of wisdom
and revealed the face of good counsel, no longer concealed.
