It is the birthday festival of the son of Abd Manaf,

not the festival of an inventor or a discoverer.

I deem your stature, O son of Abd Allah, beyond

the composing of meters and the carving of rhymes.

Or was their submission to him hypnosis?

What is that deep, hidden secret?

I swear: the Prophet Muhammad was not

    a charlatan—certainly not—nor a diviner.

Rather, it is faith: whoever wins it

finds the desert wastes easy on every side.
