لا تَحمَدَنَّ أَخا حِرصٍ عَلى سَعَةٍ

لا تَحمَدَنَّ أَخا حِرصٍ عَلى سَعَةٍ

وَاِنظُر إِلَيهِ بِعَينِ الماقِتِ القالي

وَاِنظُر إِلَيهِ بِعَينِ الماقِتِ القالي

Never praise a greedy man for his affluence.

Do not praise a greedy brother with abundant wealth

And look upon him with the eye of one who loathes and detests.

And look at him with the eyes of one who detests and disdains

إِنَّ الحريصَ لَمَشغولٌ بِشِقوَتِهِ

إِنَّ الحريصَ لَمَشغولٌ بِشِقوَتِهِ

عَنِ السُرورِ بِما يَحوي مِنَ المالِ

عَنِ السُرورِ بِما يَحوي مِنَ المالِ

Indeed, the greedy man is too absorbed in his misery

For the greedy one is preoccupied with his own misery

To take delight in the wealth he possesses.

Distracted from joy by what money he contains
