أَخافُI fear عَلىfor المُحسِنِthe doer of good المُتَّقِيthe God-fearing
وَأَرجوand I hope لِذيfor one with الهَفَواتِlapses المُسِيthe wrongdoer
I fear for the God-fearing doer of good,
and I hope for the wrongdoer given to lapses.
فَذَلِكَso that is خَوفيmy fear عَلىfor مُحسِنٍa doer of good
فَكَيفَthen how عَلىfor الظالِمِthe unjust one المُعتَدِيthe transgressor
Such, then, is my fear for one who does good—
what then of the unjust transgressor?
عَلىdespite أَنَّthe fact that ذاone given to الزَيغِstraying قَدmay يَستَفيقُcome to his senses
وَيَستَأنِفُand resumes الزَيغَstraying قَلبُthe heart of التَقِيthe pious one
Yet one who strays may come to his senses,
and the heart of the pious may stray anew.
