اِصطَبِح كَأسَ شَرابِ

اِصطَبِح كَأسَ شَرابِ

وَاِغتَبِق كَأسَ تَصابِ

وَاِغتَبِق كَأسَ تَصابِ

Drink a cup of wine in the morning,

Awaken with a cup of drink

And drink a cup of youthful dalliance in the evening.

And embrace a cup of affection

وَاِجعَلِ الأَيّامَ قَسماً

وَاِجعَلِ الأَيّامَ قَسماً

بَعدَ عَتبٍ وَعِتابِ

بَعدَ عَتبٍ وَعِتابِ

And divide up the days,

Make the days a portion

After reproach and rebuke,

After blame and scolding

وَاِجتِنابٍ في دُنُوٍّ

وَاِجتِنابٍ في دُنُوٍّ

وَدُنُوٍّ في اِجتِنابِ

وَدُنُوٍّ في اِجتِنابِ

And avoidance amid closeness,

And avoidance in coming close

And closeness amid avoidance,

And coming close in avoidance

وَرَسولٍ بِكِتابٍ

وَرَسولٍ بِكِتابٍ

وَاِنتِظارٍ لجَوابِ

وَاِنتِظارٍ لجَوابِ

And a messenger bearing a letter,

And a messenger with a book

And waiting for a reply,

And waiting for an answer

وَقُنوعٍ مِن حَبيبٍ

وَقُنوعٍ مِن حَبيبٍ

بِالمَواعيدِ الكِذابِ

بِالمَواعيدِ الكِذابِ

And being content with a beloved's

And being content with a lover

False promises.

With the lying promises

لَيسَ في الحُبِّ وَلا الصَ

لَيسَ في الحُبِّ وَلا الصَ

صَبوَةِ حَظٌّ لِلصَوابِ

صَبوَةِ حَظٌّ لِلصَوابِ

Neither in love nor in

There is in love or passion

Infatuation is there any place for sound judgment.
