Do you rejoice to behold the beauty of the dye,

when you have already buried part of yourself in the dust?

Have you not learned—though utter ignorance better suits

one such as you—that dye is youth’s shroud?

You have laid abasement upon both your jowls,

and humiliation you had never reckoned on.

Was it when grayness struck the blackness of your head

and changed it that you fled in panic to the dye?

Then you became like one who came upon a torment

and fled from torment into torment.

Prepare yourself for a departure that must come,

for you have already set your foot in the stirrup.
