وَراغِبٍ في العُلومِ مُجتَهِدٍ

وَراغِبٍ في العُلومِ مُجتَهِدٍ

لَكِنَّهُ في القَبولِ جُلمودُ

لَكِنَّهُ في القَبولِ جُلمودُ

And many a man eagerly strives for knowledge,

Yet he is a block of stone at taking it in.

فَهوَ كَذي عُنَّةٍ بِهِ شَبَقُ

فَهوَ كَذي عُنَّةٍ بِهِ شَبَقُ

أَو مُشتَهٍ لِلأَكلِ مَمعودُ

أَو مُشتَهٍ لِلأَكلِ مَمعودُ

So he is like an impotent man possessed by lust,

Or one who craves food but has an ailing stomach.
