Since my youth, I have been immersed in your bounty,
Since my youth, I have been immersed in your generosity,
And the precincts of my dwelling are filled with contentment.
And the home of my family prospers with your favor.

There are eulogies for you and for your ancestors,
Are recited to you, their parchment unrolled.
Whose elegance is widely recited to you.

Abʿalrab, the gallant, the chosen imam,
O valorous leader, the rightly-guided Imam,
And the keen-edged sword, the victorious young hero.
The bold swordsman, the victorious man.

Whoever speaks your praise without deceit
Whoever praises you sincerely,

والمجدُ شعرٌ كله تَقْصِيرُ
How can your true stature in eminence be captured,
How can I fully describe your sublime virtues?
And in glory, by verse? It all falls short.
For glory in poetry always falls short.
إنىindeed I لأقصرI surely fall short إنif أجبتكI answer you مادِحاًpraising
إنى لأقصر إن أجبتك مادِحاً
ولوand even if أنthat نظمىmy verse لُؤْلُؤٌpearls منَثُورُscattered

I surely fall short if I answer you with praise,
If I responded by praising you inadequately,
Even if my verse were scattered pearls.
Even if my poem were scattered pearls.

قصرتُ في مدْحى وَأَنت غفورُ
But I have come to you seeking pardon for
Yet I have come to you seeking pardon
My shortcomings in praise, for you are forgiving.
For falling short in my praises, and you are Forgiving.

O master of kingdoms, you are our protector;
O Master of kingdoms, You are our Guardian,
So forgive us: indeed, to you we turn.
So forgive us, to You we will return.

You have silenced me until my mind grew bewildered,
You have silenced me, so my thoughts wander,
Though I am eloquent, discerning in what is said.
Though I am eloquent in what I say and insightful.

عَطفاً لشاعِرك الذى قربتُه
ياO ناصرىmy helper مالىI have no سواكbesides you نصيرُhelper
يا ناصرى مالى سواك نصيرُ
Show kindness to your poet, whom I have brought near,
Please be gentle with your poet whom You have drawn near,
O my helper; I have no helper but you.
For I have no other helper but You, my Supporter.

So it is my duty to offer you poems of praise,
So it is incumbent upon me to present praises to You,
From which radiance and joy will greet you.
That bring You radiance and delight from them.

May you remain victorious with your battalions, ascending
Ever victorious over battalions, You ascend
The steps of happiness; may no evils befall you.
The ranks of happiness, untouched by misfortunes.

If you will a thing, it is the swiftest to come into being;
If You desire something, it happens most swiftly,
Or if you do not will it, a decree takes effect upon it.
Whether You wish it or it flows by Your decree.

And among the wonders is your giving of wealth: no
Of wonders, with that wealth that cannot
Description can encompass it, nor any reckoning.
Be enumerated or measured at all.

I know not how to speak my praises of You,
Even if my heart were seas of verse.
Even if my heart gushed poetry.

All affairs, however ancient their history,
All matters, though their time is long passed
Return to you alone from their own era.
Still return to You from their age.

Glory to Him who fashioned your form, for what
Glory to Him who shaped you perfectly,
Your breast contains, no other breasts have held.
For our comprehension cannot contain You.

You left the calf of the people of error abject,
You left the ignorant fools in haste,
By the sharp edge of justice's sword, never to return.
With the sharp blade of justice none can resist.

You are the just sovereign, yet your hand—
You are the just King, but Your hand
The right—treats the purses of silver unjustly.
Upon the full moon wanders unrestrained.

How many a needy man, having worn out his mounts to reach you,
How many destitute have reached you on their feet,
Has found the arm of poverty too short to reach him!
And departed with the camel-loads of poverty gone.

I thank you as long as I live, and remember,
For a freeborn man is grateful to a noble freeborn man.
For the noble one is thankful to the generous.

Ascend the heights, live on, and remain,
A lifetime, delighted in what you see.
Enjoying a long life, pleased with what You see.
