My companion is a burden; if the earth could reason,

It would refuse, in obedience to God, to let him tread the earth.

And if God's fire knew that he

Was bound for it, it would swear by God: 'I will not accept him.'

And one whose companions found the world too narrow

Through his vile manners, and grew sick because of him.

Because of him, I have tired of my life, of reward, and of humankind,

And my companions, all creation, and length and breadth.
