أكلّفُ نفسي الصبرَ بعدَ فراقِكم

أكلّفُ نفسي الصبرَ بعدَ فراقِكم

I force myself to be patient after parting from you.

I bid myself to have patience after your absence

And how can we have patience after separation from you?

How can I have patience after you left?

كأنَّ الأسَى والحزنَ والشوق والهوى

كأنَّ الأسَى والحزنَ والشوق والهوى

تودّ فؤادِى والفؤادُ لها قبرُ

تودّ فؤادِى والفؤادُ لها قبرُ

As though grief, sorrow, longing, and love

It's as if sorrow, grief, longing and love

desire my heart, and my heart is their grave.

Want my heart while my heart is their grave

لقد ضاقَتْ الدنيا عليَّ بأسْرِها

لقد ضاقَتْ الدنيا عليَّ بأسْرِها

كأنَّ قُرَابَ الأرض مِن بَعدكم شِبْرُ

كأنَّ قُرَابَ الأرض مِن بَعدكم شِبْرُ

Indeed, the whole world has grown narrow around me,

The whole world has narrowed around me

as though the earth's full expanse, after your departure, were a handspan.

As if the earth's expanse is but a handspan without you
