شربت شمولاً من شتيتٍ مشوبةً

بشهد شذاها عنبرٌ وقُرُنْفُلُ

I drank wine from a mouth of well-spaced teeth, mingled

With honey, its fragrance ambergris and cloves.

طمست الهوَى لما بَدا طالعُ الهُدى

طمست الهوَى لما بَدا طالعُ الهُدى

وطلعةُ سلطانُ بن سيف تهلَّلُ

وطلعةُ سلطانُ بن سيف تهلَّلُ

I blotted out passion when the rising star of guidance appeared,

And Sultan bin Saif’s countenance beamed with joy.

ومن مثل سلطان بن سيف وولدِه

ومن مثل سلطان بن سيف وولدِه

وفاءً وحلماً في الموازين تثقلُ

وفاءً وحلماً في الموازين تثقلُ

And who is like Sultan bin Saif and his offspring

In loyalty and forbearance, weighing heavily in the scales?

هربت لديهم إذ هدوني إلى الهُدى

هربت لديهم إذ هدوني إلى الهُدى

وأهدوا هدايا من هِباتٍ تُعَجَّلُ

وأهدوا هدايا من هِباتٍ تُعَجَّلُ

I fled to them when they led me to the right path,

And offered gifts from bounties bestowed without delay.

لأنكَ يا سلطان لا زِلْتَ لابساً

لأنكَ يا سلطان لا زِلْتَ لابساً

لآلِىء مجدٍ لا تَرِثُّ فتبذلُ

لآلِىء مجدٍ لا تَرِثُّ فتبذلُ

For you, O Sultan—may you never cease wearing

Pearls of glory that never grow worn enough to be cast aside.
