سَألتُ مَن الكريمُ من الرجالِ

سَألتُ مَن الكريمُ من الرجالِ

ومَنْ يعطي الجزيلَ مِنَ النوالِ

ومَنْ يعطي الجزيلَ مِنَ النوالِ

I asked: Who is the generous one among men?

I asked, who is the most generous of men

And who gives abundant bounty?

And who gives abundant gifts without restraint

ومَنْ يقضِى حوائجنَا سريعاً

ومَنْ يقضِى حوائجنَا سريعاً

لديه بغير مَنٍّ أو مِطَالِ

لديه بغير مَنٍّ أو مِطَالِ

And who swiftly fulfills our needs

Who fulfils our needs swiftly

In his presence, without reminders of favors or delay?

Without reluctance or procrastination

ومَنْ إنْ جئته تبغِى عَطاءً

ومَنْ إنْ جئته تبغِى عَطاءً

أجَابكَ مُسرعاً قبلَ السؤالِ

أجَابكَ مُسرعاً قبلَ السؤالِ

And who, if you come to him seeking a gift,

Who, if you go to him seeking a gift

Answers you swiftly before you ask?

Responds readily before you even ask

ومَنْ يَهَبُ الكثير مِنَ العطايَا

ومَنْ يَهَبُ الكثير مِنَ العطايَا

يجودُ بمَا لديه ولا يُبَالِي

يجودُ بمَا لديه ولا يُبَالِي

And who bestows abundant gifts,

Who gives abundantly from his bounty

Giving freely of what he has, without a care?

And generously offers all he has without care

فقالوا ليسَ يوجدُ مثلُ هذا

فقالوا ليسَ يوجدُ مثلُ هذا

سِوى الزاكِي الفتى أهل المعَالِي

سِوى الزاكِي الفتى أهل المعَالِي

Then they said: No one like this is found,

They told me none but the noble youth

Except al-Zaki, the young man worthy of lofty honors.
