1. عجلةُ الإنسان لومٌ

    عند أصحابَ المزيَّهْ

    Human haste is blameworthy

    in the eyes of those of distinction.

  2. ذمَّها كلُّ البرايا

    في دواوين القَضيّهْ

    All people have condemned it

    in the records of the case.

  3. عجلةُ الإنسان خيرٌ

    من توانِ في العطيَّه

    Human haste is better

    than delay in giving.

  4. وكذا الإمْهَالُ شينٌ

    عند أصحابِ السَّجيَّه

    And likewise, delay is a blemish

    in the eyes of people of character.

  5. ليسَ في العجلةِ خيرٌ

    يرتجى عند البريَّه

    There is no good in haste

    to be hoped for among humankind.

  6. إنما الحاذقُ لا يعجلُ

    في أمر الرَّعيِّهْ

    Indeed, the skilled person does not hurry

    in the affairs of the subjects.

  7. إنما الإمْهال زينٌ

    في العقولِ الألْمَعِيَّهْ

    Delay is indeed an adornment

    in discerning minds.

  8. وكذا العجلةُ عيبٌ

    في سَجيَّات البريَّهْ

    And likewise, haste is a fault

    in humankind's dispositions.

  9. إنما الإفراطُ في العجلة

    إلاّ في العطيَّه

    There is only excess in haste,

    except in giving.

  10. والونَى خيرٌ لأصحابِ

    القضايَا في القضيه

    And slowness is better for those with

    cases, in the case at hand.

  11. ليس في الإمهالِ خيرٌ

    في سجياتِ البريَّه

    There is no good in delay

    in humankind's dispositions.

  12. إنما الخير تراهُ

    عند تعجيلِ القضيَّه

    You see goodness only

    in hastening the case.

  13. ليس في العجلةِ خيرٌ

    لأولى النفسِ الأبيَّه

    There is no good in haste

    for those with a proud soul.

  14. إنما الإفراطُ فيهَا

    وهي أسبابُ المَنِيَّه

    There is nothing but excess in it,

    and it is a cause of death.

  15. إنما العجلةُ في بعضِ

    الفضيّاتِ رَضِيَّه

    Haste is indeed, regarding some

    silver items, commendable.

  16. وأرَى الإمْهَالَ فيها

    من رَدَاءَاتِ السَّجيَّه

    And I see delay in them

    as one of the faults of character.

  17. إنما خيرُ السجيّه

    عجلةٌ عند العَطيَّه

    Indeed, the best trait of character

    is haste when giving.

  18. كلُّ مَنْ يبغى سِواهَا

    ناقصٌ عند البريَّهْ

    Everyone who seeks something other than it

    is deficient in humankind's eyes.

  19. يمدحُ العجلةَ يا ذَا

    وهي أسبابُ المَنيِّه

    He praises haste, O you,

    though it is a cause of death.

  20. فامدحْ الإمهالَ مدحاً

    فهو من خيرِ السجيَّهْ

    So give praise to delay,

    for it is among the finest traits of character.

  21. لا تعبْ تعجيلَ قومٍ

    عند أصحابِ المزيَّه

    Do not fault a people's prompt action

    in the eyes of those of distinction.

  22. لاَ ولاَ الإمهال لومٌ

    في سجيّاتِ البَريَّه

    No, nor is delay blameworthy

    in humankind's dispositions.

  23. فضعِ العجلةَ في مَوْ

    ضِعها في الجليَّه

    So put haste in its

    place, in what is clear;

  24. وضعِ الإمهالَ في مَو

    ضِعه يا ذَا المزيَّه

    and put delay in its

    place, O you of distinction.
