Congratulations on victory; triumph is promised you.

And what you seek, destiny brings to pass.

You headed toward the foes with illustrious noble chiefs,

Lofty-nosed and mighty, with radiance adorning their brows.

Among them are lords of Ya'rub, resplendent,

Their faces glowing like moons at the full.

You take them on the horses' backs for lions of Shara,

The horses racing with them into the fray as war rages.

They fling themselves forward while the lions are bewildered,

In the straits of war, where spears intertwine.

Blessed are you, a just king and an arbiter.

May you ever glory above kings through the ages.

You have no need of any of the kings,

And every living being needs you throughout time.

    أَنْى يُساويك مَن في باعه قِصرُ

    None whose reach is wide can equal you;

How could one whose reach is short equal you?

You surpassed creation in justice and character,

And every creature but you is held in contempt today.

Why do I see a band gone astray, in whose eyes

Every great man besides you has no worth?

And he drives the spear into their throat-hollows intact,

And it comes out only broken.

War blazes, and bright swords flash,

As though, in their polish, they were radiant stars.

God is greatest! Justice is manifest,

Oppression is effaced, and truth victorious.

The fire of the people of depravity and oppression is quenched,

And the light of the people of guidance and faith flourishes.

May the reign of justice ever be victorious,

While the reign of ignorance is bereft of victory,

With the appearance of the valiant Ya'rubi, our lord,

That heroic imam, resolute and manly.

Refined in judgment, praised for his character, one from whom

No treacherous harm is feared, pure, with no cloudiness in him.

If one day he charges the foes amid battle-dust,

With a sharp-edged sword, he neither spares nor leaves anything.

They secretly agreed upon their plan and their scheme—

A treacherous one; their plotting brought them destruction.

    وكيف يربحٌُ مَن قد خانَه الظفرُ

    They thought they would gain, but their last remnant was uprooted;

How can anyone gain when victory has betrayed him?

Their bodies would say, if they could speak,

These words: 'O people of insight, take heed!'

Ruin and loss to them! Their striving has failed.

They did no good, and they have indeed lost.

Had there been minds with which they understood,

They would have pondered the calamities of time and taken heed.

    إنْ لم يَتُوبوا فَمأْوَى كُلِّهم سَقرُ

    But they denied their Lord's signs;

If they do not repent, Saqar will be the abode of them all.

Whoever transgresses and disobeys the All-Merciful, his Creator,

Neither signs nor warnings will benefit him.

These men transgressed in their endeavor and acted unjustly,

And some deceived others through what they plotted.

Had they acted justly, they would have obeyed God and followed

The imam's command, carrying out what they were ordered.

But they urged one another to break the covenant and adopted

The opposite of what they were rightly commanded, and would not be deterred.

They are truly beasts, with no minds,

Even if you see in them the semblance of human beings.

They grew blind and deaf, forgetting their master's favors—

Bal'arab, offspring of Sultan—and did not remember.

They are his slaves; they betrayed him and were routed.

What harm would it have done them had they been patient?

They betrayed him, and ingratitude for his favor brought them

Two punishments; loss is what they have indeed won.

If you banish them from our dwellings, they persist

In hypocrisy; if you bring them close, they betray.

    Your purified character deceived them,

And compassion, and bounty pouring forth from you.

They did not know that you are the king before whom bowed

The kings of humankind, nomads and settled folk.

And that you are the keen, cutting sword, unsheathed

Against the foes, mighty in your loftiness.

Had they known, no defiance would have appeared from them,

Nor would harm or horror have surrounded them.

They took precautions against things you would do

To them as exemplary punishment, yet caution did not benefit them.

You scattered them into groups, and their binding knot unraveled,

Because of their wrongdoing; they fled from their sons.

Some of them are in torment that has no end,

Some in fetters difficult to undo,

And some in cramped underground dungeons,

With vipers, worms, and filth in them.

Some are routed on the summits of lofty mountains,

And some are in deserts, unburied.

Praise be to God! We are unharmed, and we are not

Distressed by a people's plight if they have disbelieved.

O people, if you possess insight—

For none understands but one who has insight—

Then ponder and remember your master's favors.

For he is the generous, valiant imam, the tiger.

    وكلُّ ذنبٍ سِوى الإشراكِ مُغتفرُ

    Whoever among you commits a sin, he forgives it;

Every sin except associating partners with God is forgivable.

The imam is a fortress and refuge for you

From the foes; thank him for his favors and obey.

If you give thanks, you will prosper in this world and the hereafter,

For he takes vengeance on the ungrateful.

Do not say, 'We have no need of his gifts,'

For every creature needs his bounty.

He knows no breach in promise or pledge,

And if a poor man comes to him, he makes no excuses.

Watchful, if seekers of bounty make for his courtyard,

He enriches them with bounty pouring forth from him.

If ever he is reckoned for bounty, he is not matched

In his generosity by the two most generous: the sea and rain.

And if he rises into view, before his brow's radiance

The two luminaries, sun and moon, are rolled up.

Were we to weigh the whole of creation, all together,

Against his little fingernail, that nail would put them to shame.

O king in whom we place our hope, we have

A need whose fulfillment we hope for and await.

Never have I stretched out my hand hoping for help,

Without your palm descending toward me with bounty.

How could I deny a favor that has been bestowed abundantly

Upon me from childhood until old age came?

If [my son?], my uncle, his son, and my father

Were hostile to you, I would oppose them for faith, even if they shunned me.

By God, if my own soul harbored defiance

Against you, I would disown it, as with those who have gone before.

Yours are the kingdoms and lofty glory in full,

And for your foes, the earth's dust and stones.

Live, endure, and remain happy and joyful

In the palace of Yabrin, beneath which a river flows.

A lofty-built palace that delights onlookers; when

You look at it, care and distress leave you.

    يحوطُه النخل والرمانُ والشجرُ

    In it is joy, and in it every fruit;

Date palms, pomegranates, and trees surround it.

And in it is what no eye has seen, nor has ever crossed

The mind in fancies, imaginings, or thoughts.

As though it were the garden of Paradise brought down,

With fruits, good things, and couches in it.

Around it is a lush, ample-shaded garden,

    With delicacies, trees, and fruit.

Such is its beauty, and the radiance of its splendid lights,

That when you look upon it, sight falls short.

May you enjoy it with a continuance that knows no end,

Abiding in it forever, with your lifespan prolonged.

And the hater, envious and sorrowful, is distraught,

Shackled, his lot sorrows and sleeplessness.

While you ascend the steps of lofty glory,

As long as radiant Dhu al-Hijjah or Safar passes.

You are the companion of high honors, O successor of him

Whose praise the verses and chapters contain.

He is the well-pleasing Prophet, sent forth from Mudar.

Sufficient for you is one whose forefather is Adnan or Mudar.

I spread your praise through the horizons so long as there rises

A sun, and a moon gleams in the wing of darkness.

    You are creation, the world, and its splendor;

Without you, neither the world nor humankind would exist.
