O Hajjaj, God has granted you a height
O Hajjaj, truly God has granted you the utmost limit,
that whoever seeks to reach it falls short of.
Which the aspirations of others fall short of attaining.

O Hajjaj, your sword shall not be blunted, but only
hand of God holds the fates of death, wherever He sees fit.
By the decree of God wherever He has ordained it.

When Hajjaj descends upon a sick land,
When Hajjaj descends upon an ailing land,
he traces its sickness to its furthest reaches and heals it.
He follows its disease to its furthest extent and cures it.

It was healed of the intractable disease within it
He cures it of insoluble, entrenched disease
by a young man who, when he brandishes the spear, gives it drink.
Like a young man shaking the spear that quenches its thirst,

He gives it the blood of renegades, then a second draught,
Quenching its thirst with the blood of rebels and healing it,
when one day it bolts and its harm is feared.
When it grows restive one day and its harm is feared.

When Hajjaj hears the rumble of a battalion,
When Hajjaj hears the neighing of an equine troop,
he prepares its guest-fare before it encamps.
He prepares their settlements for them before they descend.

He readies for it polished Persian blades,
He prepares for them sharpened Persian scimitars
in the hands of men who draw off their stored milk.
In the hands of men who milk their lobes.

For neither maidens nor matrons have borne his like
Thus no virgin womb or ally has birthed his equal
in Najd, nor in any land whose soil grows dry.
In Nejd or any land where its ruins decay.

O Hajjaj, do not grant the rebels their wishes,
O Hajjaj, do not grant the rebels their wish,
nor may God grant the rebels theirs,
And God does not grant the rebels their wish.

nor grant them to any habitual oath-swearer who undertook a pledge of allegiance,
No oath-breaking traitor who assumed the pledge
then revered God's covenant, and afterward sold it.
And broke God's covenant made it great then annulled it.
