إنْ كُنْتَ تَبْغِي أبا بَكْرٍ فإنَّهُمُ

إنْ كُنْتَ تَبْغِي أبا بَكْرٍ فإنَّهُمُ

بِكُلِّ ساحَةِ قَوْمٍ مِنْهُمُ أَثَرُ

بِكُلِّ ساحَةِ قَوْمٍ مِنْهُمُ أَثَرُ

If you seek Abu Bakr, then they

If you seek Abu Bakr, they are in every open space,

have left a trace in the grounds of every tribe:

With traces of them everywhere among the people.

نُعْمَى وبُؤْسى بآفاقِ البِلادِ فما

نُعْمَى وبُؤْسى بآفاقِ البِلادِ فما

ينالُ أعْداؤُهُمْ مِنْهُمُ ولا قَدَرُوا

ينالُ أعْداؤُهُمْ مِنْهُمُ ولا قَدَرُوا

Bounty and hardship across the land's horizons; so

Whether in good or bad times across the horizons,

their enemies cannot harm them, nor have they been able to.

Their enemies cannot touch them, nor plot against them.

والعالِمُونَ إذا ما الأمْرُ ضاقَهُمُ

والعالِمُونَ إذا ما الأمْرُ ضاقَهُمُ

أَنَّى يُحاوَلُ فيه الوِرْدُ والصَدَرُ

أَنَّى يُحاوَلُ فيه الوِرْدُ والصَدَرُ

And they know, when a matter hems them in,

When matters tighten for the knowledgeable,

how to seek within it the way to water and the way back.

Where can conversation and patience break through?

واخْتَرْتُ آلَ أبي بَكْرٍ لحاجَتِنا

واخْتَرْتُ آلَ أبي بَكْرٍ لحاجَتِنا

وكانَ فيهِمْ لمَنْ يَخْتارُهُمْ خِيَرُ

وكانَ فيهِمْ لمَنْ يَخْتارُهُمْ خِيَرُ

And I chose the family of Abu Bakr for our need,

I chose the family of Abu Bakr for our need,

and among them were worthy choices for whoever chooses them.

Among them is the best for whoever would choose them.

وما اتَّهَمْتُ بني جَزْءٍ بظِنّتِهِ

وما اتَّهَمْتُ بني جَزْءٍ بظِنّتِهِ

ومَا أساؤُوا وما ضاعَ الذي خَطَروا

ومَا أساؤُوا وما ضاعَ الذي خَطَروا

And I did not accuse the sons of Jazʾ because of his suspicion,

I never suspected the sons of Jazr with any doubt,

and they did no wrong, nor was what they staked lost.

They did no wrong and did not fail what they ventured.
