رَبيعُ لا يَسقُكَ نَحوي سائِقُ

رَبيعُ لا يَسقُكَ نَحوي سائِقُ

فَتَطلُبَ الأَذحالُ وَالحَقائِقُ

فَتَطلُبَ الأَذحالُ وَالحَقائِقُ

Rabiʿ, let no driver drive you toward me,

Springtime does not guide you to me as a driver

Lest blood debts and rightful claims demand redress,

So you may seek truths and intentions

وَيَعلَمَ المُعيا بِهِ وَالسابِقُ

وَيَعلَمَ المُعيا بِهِ وَالسابِقُ

ما أَنتَ إِن ضُمَّ عَلَيكَ المازِقُ

ما أَنتَ إِن ضُمَّ عَلَيكَ المازِقُ

And the weary one and the frontrunner alike learn of it.

And the knowing one and the preceder would know

If the narrow pass closes around you, you are no different

Who you are if the sustainer folds you

إِلّا كَشَيءٍ عاقَهُ العَوائِقُ

إِلّا كَشَيءٍ عاقَهُ العَوائِقُ

وَأَنتَ حاسٍ حَسوَةً فَذائِقُ

وَأَنتَ حاسٍ حَسوَةً فَذائِقُ

From a thing held back by obstacles.

You are but a thing the obstacles have crippled

And you will sip a mouthful, then taste it.

And you feel you have felt so you are a taster

لا بُدَّ أَن يُغمَزَ مِنكَ الفائِقُ

لا بُدَّ أَن يُغمَزَ مِنكَ الفائِقُ

غَمزاً تَرى أَنَّكَ مِنهُ ذارِقُ

غَمزاً تَرى أَنَّكَ مِنهُ ذارِقُ

The joint at your nape must inevitably be squeezed,

Inevitably the superior must be pinched from you

With a squeeze that you will find makes you defecate.

A pinch you see that you from it are escaping

إِنَّكَ شَيخٌ خائِنٌ مُنافِقُ

إِنَّكَ شَيخٌ خائِنٌ مُنافِقُ

بِالمُخزِياتِ ظاهِرٌ مُطابِقُ

بِالمُخزِياتِ ظاهِرٌ مُطابِقُ

You are indeed a treacherous, hypocritical old man,

You are an old traitor hypocrite

Notorious for disgraceful deeds, and at one with them.

With disgraces apparent and concordant
