أَلَم تَتَنَقَّثها اِبنَ قَيسِ بنِ مالِكٍ

أَلَم تَتَنَقَّثها اِبنَ قَيسِ بنِ مالِكٍ

وَأَنتَ صَفِيُّ نَفسِهِ وَسَجيرُها

وَأَنتَ صَفِيُّ نَفسِهِ وَسَجيرُها

Did you not draw it out, O son of Qays ibn Malik,

Have you not made careful note of it, O son of Qais son of Malik,

while you are his soul’s chosen friend and close companion?

While you are its trusted confidant and knowing companion?
